2002 Caterham 7 SV140 1.8K from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Simply the best thing on four wheels!

Faults:

Front wheel bearings replaced at 12,000 miles.

Rear view mirror fell off at 22,500 miles.

General Comments:

The car is a total fun package. It is extremely fast, handles better than almost all other vehicles on the road and rewards enthusiastic driving. But despite that I get more than 40mpg.

I have driven it in all weathers, including snow and ice, and nothing has spoiled the enjoyment. In summer, my wife calls it the 4-wheel deckchair!

It is extremely comfortable, even on long journeys, and copes with luggage for two for seven days - longer if you use the fixing for a case on the back.

The only downside on long journeys is the noise at high speed, but if you use a motorbike communications unit with ear-defender headphones you can talk to your passenger, listen to music (mini disc player/radio), GPS and mobile with no problems at all.

2000 Caterham 7 Autosport 1.6 K Series from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Once you driven one, you will have to have one!

Faults:

Some times the starter motor stick. If the car is put in gear and then rocked while pressing the starter button it works fine. Hasn't done it for a while.

General Comments:

This car is fantastic. 0-60 in just a bit over 5 seconds. The handling is excellent. It is very hard to get in and out of, but not too bad once you are in the seat.. I was suprised how comfortable it is. The stereo is a waste of time.. You can't hear anything other than the engine, if you can't hear the engine you are not driving it properly..

Closes thing to riding a bike I have ever come across.

1978 Caterham 7 super seven 1.5 from North America

Summary:

Most fun you can have wearing clothes

Faults:

There have been some visits by Lucas the prince of darkness to the electrical system, repaired by myself; an electrical tester is mandatory equipment for this car.

General Comments:

Absolutely fantastic performance and handling with a stiff suspension that allows you to feel the car flex slightly in turns.

Acceleration unmatched by other cars (with a power to weight ratio similar to the Dodge Viper) finds you two blocks down the road before Mustangs have travelled one block.

The buffeting of the wind in the cockpit is almost stunning, literally.

A minimalist car with no luxuries, and best driven on days when the roof and doors need not be mounted on the car, because climbing in is almost impossible.

Thank you. This is my absolute favourite car in the world!!! Of course most people here (Canada) have never heard of it. I've seen a few, but haven't the faintest idea where to buy one, I believe in U.S.A. you guys have a guy in Connecticut or something, (Vermont?) Don't you?

Den.

1993 Caterham 7 Super Sport 1.4K Series from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Minor electrical faults.

General Comments:

An absolute joy to drive.

It is bumpy and drafty, but whatever the discomfort is, it is outweighed by the sheer exhilaration of being at one with the car.
