1991 Chevrolet Blazer Tahoe LT 4.3L Vortec from North America

Summary:

A strong 1/2 ton for less than $5,000

Faults:

Main bering blew at what the odometer reads as 152,000 miles.

We have information that the odometer has been rolled back 100,000 miles.

Front leather seats have cracked and torn.

General Comments:

The 4.3l V6 is a great engine, it provides 190 horsepower and 260 pounds of torque. If purchasing a Blazer I think it wise to invest in the four wheel drive model.

My Blazer handles fabulously, the ride is a little bumpy, but the leather seats are very comfortable. Acceleration is pretty slow, but the towing capabilities are amazing for this 1/2 ton sport utility vehicle.

1991 Chevrolet Blazer S10 Tahoe 4.3 FI from North America

Summary:

Not one you want to jump into blindly.

Faults:

It had numerous suspension problems, Pitman Arm, ball joint, trailing arm. If you ever think about buying one with a large amount of miles, Don't, at least not before you consult a qualified professional, or someone with experience diagnosing the shape of the front end components. I was advised by my mechanic that they typically have right front end problems periodically.

It was a rust bucket also. Before you even consider buying a generation 1 Blazer 84-94, check it around the wheel wells, under the doors, around the tailgate, and on the roof, because once they start rusting they can't seem to stop.

The one thing I liked was the seats. The were pretty comfy.

It it also a hauler, I was able to get all kinds of things in it.

1991 Chevrolet Blazer 4.3L V-6 from North America

Summary:

If taken care of, it should run forever

Faults:

Nothing major has happened since I have owned this vehicle.

Changed the u-joints at ~170,000miles.

Water pump @223,000mi.

The ball joints are the only major issue with this vehicle. They have been changed twice since I have owned it.

General Comments:

Overall, this is a good sturdy vehicle.

Takes off-roading well and seems to hold up.

Gas mileage is not good at all, highway or city.

The body is rusted out badly, but it is paid for and runs quite nicely still.

1991 Chevrolet Blazer 4.6 from North America

Summary:

A waste of good beer money

Faults:

This car has been in my family since it rolled off the lot. Multiple drivers, light city, highway driving.

The brakes have been a consistent problem. The dealers have never explained it.

The paint disappeared after a year and the dealer refused to do anything about it (the recall didn't seem to affect the '91)

New ENGINE! Due to broken engine mounts, another little gem that Chevy never mentions about the 4.3L engine. It was the largest, but also the heaviest causing cracks and break on the mounts.

New transmission! The transmission up and died after faithful service.

Electrical issues: windows burned out, wipers have mind of their own, rear wiper gone after 2 years, A/C hasn't worked in years.

I can only attribute some of the problems that I have had to "normal wear and tear."

General Comments:

Why do I still have this vehicle? Because no matter what, it is paid for. That and I love reminding myself every morning to not buy over-priced junk, especially if it has GM or Chevy on it.

1991 Chevrolet Blazer 4.3 from North America

Summary:

It is a great work truck

Faults:

Since I had the car, nothing has gone wrong, but the alternator failed and I had to replace the thermostat. Besides that the general maintenance is all I had to do to it. It was practically new when I got it.

General Comments:

I am surprised how good it's running after all the miles I put on it.

1991 Chevrolet Blazer S10 Sport 4.3 TBI from North America

Summary:

This car has been wonderful

Faults:

Before I bought it, it had had the hood and roof repainted under warranty and there was some pin in the transfer case. Other than that, nothing but regular service.

General Comments:

The engine is fantastic, never a problem, never leaked and still has its original power. I was very impressed with its reliability.

1991 Chevrolet Blazer S10 6 cyl from North America

Faults:

The entire electrical system is shot. The horn malfunctioned and shorted out, the warning lights are stuck on, the front to the glove compartment fell off, rearview mirror fell off, roughly 25% of the exterior paint has peeled off, manual transmission sometimes skips 3rd gear, but it starts up every morning and gets me where I need to go.

General Comments:

I haven't had to make any major repairs yet, but the electrical stuff gets annoying and overall the car looks thrashed.
