1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS 396ci. V8 4 speed from North America

Summary:

Best car I ever owned!

Faults:

Most recent major problem was the clutch went 10 years ago, and couldn't figure out that it was that the flywheel was shaved too many times so the car sat for 5 years.

General Comments:

Owned the car since day one. Drag raced it in the early 70's. Very good, reliable, fast muscle car. Surprisingly comfortable bucket seats in the front for an old car. Back bench seat is tight spaced. Original colour was Canary yellow, painted orange in the 70's. Vinyl top is still in near mint condition. No rust, except for to cracks in the paint below the rear window. In good condition for spending the Northwestern Ontario winters in a shed with a rotten wooden floor.

1968 Chevrolet Camaro Base Sport coupe 327ci V8, 2bbl from North America

Summary:

Not too bad for 33 years old

Faults:

Various problems over years. Minor repairs, leaking, rusting, vinyl roof tore off, rear window leaks - rusted out trunk and puddles in rain.

Late 1980's had to fix the gas tank, leaking bad.

Kinked rubber fuel line (from tank repair?) seemed like carburator problem.

Top of the back seat deteriorates bad, foam chunks fly all over car with the windows open.

Rear side windows don't roll down well, need help to guide along.

Master brake cylinder gave out at (2) 46,000 miles.

General Comments:

Engine died strong at (2 or 300,000) + 36,000 miles while warming up.

Seats have limited adjustability.

Vinyl is HOT in summer - California.

Fast! Leaves everyone behind.

Easy to control, though the power steering is over-assisted.

Feels like driving a boat, long hood, wide (from inside).

Can fit a semi-truck in the right rear blind spot without a right hand mirror.

2 speed Powerglide transmission is the best, 2 gears after shift from first, no more shifts = all acceleration. Also very reliable.

No 100,000 digit on odometer. Can be good and bad.

No more smog = runs well.

Looks good, especially in non-R/S form.
