The car got hit two weeks after I got it so the steering is off by half an inch or so. got into a second accident a year ago and had to replace the brake and fuel lines other than that nothing. And I broke the center counsel.
The car is amazing,it is fast and acceleration is amazing I have beat v8 firebirds before in a race. The interior is nice and is in great shape. And the sound system is better then my friends Camaro and it is a stock system. And the zero-60 is not bad at 7.2 seconds and quater mile in 14 seconds so not bad for a 3800. And I highly rec-amend them for a every day driver and something to play with!
I just purchased one today for a good price with 80,000 miles. Everything was mint on this and had every option except the moon roof. When I drove it I felt great. Lots of power, comfort and enough coziness to feel secure.
I'll be picking it up on Monday and give more comments as I own it. Looking forward to it.
I'm just glad it has that 3.8 Series II engine and great transmission. One of GM's better combos.
I just bought a 1998 Monte Carlo with 160,000 miles on it. I was a little worried about the mileage and I still am, but the car is from South Carolina so I feel a little better then if it were from where I live (New York) because of the lack of salt that the car has not seen. Unfortunatly, my head gasket did go and I spent $600 on fixing it. I didn't notice anything wrong with the car, only that the service engine soon light came on. It still ran fine.
Sir, the check engine light may come on for various reasons. I have a 99 Monte Carlo, with 165000 Miles and I love it. My check engine light is still on after having new plugs and wires. I was told it was because of a misfire. Car still misfires, I think it is a bad censor though. You should really have your car checked out, I am sure glad I did, I found out that my plugs have never been changed, after 165000 Miles. yeah, that is really bad on the motor. If you don't want to go to the mechanic, you should try and get new plugs and wires, or maybe a basic tune up and see if that helps. I hope I helped you out some, if you want you can comment me at gustoff14@hotmail.com Oh, and do you know NOT to use green Antifreeze, I found that out when I went to the mechanic also. Use Dex Cool Antifreeze, The Orange or Pink Color kind.
I own a 98 Monte with 47.000 miles. No problems (yet) with the troublesome intake gaskets on the 3.1. Great running and handling car, I would highly recommend to anyone.
I bought a 1998 Monte Carlo with 160,000 miles on it. It now has 192,000 miles on it and all I have done is replace the belt, battery, brakes and 2 tires. I had the transmission flushed (was a little worried about doing that) and that about covers it. The CD player quit working and the console lid broke off, but I can live with that. I'm now going to hand it over to my son to drive until it dies. It's been a great car, but has also had great maintenance from the previous owner and myself. Great highway mileage...29-30 and a pretty comfortable ride.
