1988 Chevrolet Silverado C2500 5.7 gas from North America

Summary:

A solid truck for the long haul

Faults:

The engine block was replaced with a new Chevrolet 5.7L 350 at 176,000 miles.

The transmission was replaced with a new Chevrolet transmission at 246,000 miles.

The carpet, headliner, and seat upholstery was replaced at about 260,000 miles.

General Comments:

Considering the use and abuse this truck has received in the past 14+ years, it has held up extremely well.

The truck is a 1988 model year, and purchased in July 1987, ordered new. My father owned the truck until I began driving it in 1997. It was used as a business vehicle for home appliance delivery and repair during those 10 years.

It has been driven between Maryland and Florida at least 15 times, and continues to run well.

I switched to using synthetic oil around 250,000 miles, and it burns almost no oil between oil changes.

The air conditioning blows 36 to 38 degrees in the Florida sun, and has never been serviced or charged, although it still runs R12 refrigerant.

The body is starting to show its age with minor rust around the top of the windshield and the bottom of the tailgate.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
