1994 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 6.5 turbo diesel from North America

Summary:

Pulls and hauls anything with ease!

Faults:

The washer motor (?) is not working correctly. The wipes don't always come on or go off. The problem may be electrical and also might be our fault.

The cruise control frequently won't work if the driver had previously hit the brakes firmly or was on the brakes for too long (like at a stop light). Once the truck is stopped and restarted, it'll work OK. Both the above problems might be related to an electrical short we had caused by a pinched wire for our trailer lights and brakes. We burnt up a brake box and that's when the cruise problem started.

And then there's the common Chevy diesel problems. The waste gate solenoid was replaced. Then once that was out of the way, the injector pump was replaced under warranty, around 95,000.

A fuel solenoid was replaced at about 110,000 but was also covered under warranty. Maybe a second injector pump at that time, I can't remember.

General Comments:

This truck will pull anything! It seems to have heavy duty springs which makes it a little rough riding. It also has rear gear that are great for towing, but not so great on mileage.

It's not a pretty boy truck, not meant to impress. It's an honest to goodness Chevy truck made for pulling and towing and hauling. We load it up with dirt bikes, bicycles, and a travel trailer and have driven it absolutely all over without incident.

Yeah, it blows a little black diesel smoke. We love it and had a sticker made for the back bumper "Eat Diesel!"

1994 Chevrolet Silverado 5.7L from North America

Summary:

A great looking workhorse

Faults:

Alternator burned out at 80,000.

Wiper motor blew out at 67,000 but was under warranty.

Not really a problem, but the dashboard controls are a little cheap feeling.

The factory radio worked sporadically but I had plans for a replacement anyway.

General Comments:

This truck looks and sounds great I've put a 40 series Flow master on it.

It has a beefed up rear suspension (aftermarket) and the 350 has more than enough grunt to get my jobs done.

The interior is very comfy with the high back bucket seats and is extremely tight, no wind noise to speak of.

1994 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 4x4 5.7 litre V8 from North America

Summary:

Awesome truck, but no need for the off-road package

Faults:

The only problems I've had are with the four wheel drive system at about 30,000 miles.

It was an electrical problem that cost less the $100 to replace.

General Comments:

At 100,000 miles and no problems, I replaced every component under the hood except the engine and transmission.

The truck is maintained extensively and does get light off-road use.

One thing that needs working on is the trucks turning radius - it's poor!

1994 Chevrolet Silverado 4x4 Extended Cab 5.7/350 c.i. from North America

Summary:

A cold weather friend!

Faults:

Ball joint.

Right hand side blinker.

General Comments:

The only real problems I've had with my truck is with hooking up my trailer brakes. I think this is less of a problem with the truck's electricals and more to do with the quality of wiring that was used for it.

I've put almost 50,000kms on this truck and it has treated me very well. I change the oil on a regular basis and gave it a full tune up 2 days after I bought it.

The truck was bought in Alberta where it gets as cold as -40 celcius. No problems. 2 years later, I'm living on the West Coast in start and stop traffic (unless I go up Island) and have still had no problems. My friend in AB has a '92 with over 210,000kms on it and he has only had to replace the 4x4 actuator (approximately $150).

One thing to consider is that the factory in Canada builds them differently for B.C. than most of the rest of Canada due in part to the extreme weather difference. Thank God I bought mine in the next province over.

1994 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Ext Cab 5.0 from North America

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

The only fault I find is the wide turning radius of the extended cab model. You have to plan ahead when entering a parking lot.
