1977 Chevrolet Vega Station Wagon 140 ci 4 cylinder. bored .030" from North America

Summary:

A great first car that I provided lots of fun.

Faults:

Rust around taillights.

General Comments:

I installed a.030 steel sleeved motor with a 4 spee-d from a 1973 Vega. The cat. converter was punched out with a Turbo muffler installed on the exhaust. I installed rims from a Vega GT with 195/70R13 tires. The car was repainted with the original Firethorn Red in Imron paint. The car was slow to take off due to the 2.92 rear end, but would fly on the top end. It would run 50 mph in first gear, with top end around 110 mph. The 1977 engines has hydraulic lifters and they floated about 5600 rpm. All that while getting 23-25 mpg on the road.

Does sound a little over geared if it could do 50 in first. Out of interest where did it max out in second and third?
