The 2cv is amazing, I own a Dyane6, and it's my 1st car!! The gear stick is easy to pick up and use. You may be moaning about it, but it's similar to a Renault 4. They are easy to work on, but many miss the main purpose of their cars; to drive across ploughed fields in comfort, with a dozen eggs and not break 1 during transit. How many modern 4x4s are able to do that?

For a car that costs no more than £3000, they have better seats and suspension than many 4x4s that cost in excess of £25,000!!!

And also slow? Maybe, because mine is a dyane6, but it isn't slow. I've had a drag race against a 1200cc Beetle, and it beat that easily, with half the cylinders, half the engine size!!! For what they are, they are amazing.

A 2cv is a great car, an iconic piece of design work.

I think people who are knocking the 2CV are entirely missing the point. I even question whether the original reviewer has ever sat in one, let alone driven one.

The 2cv was France's VW or Mini. Low cost, basic transportation for the masses. Its design brief was simply a motorised umbrella on wheels, designed to get people off horse and carts and into cars, as well as the oft quoted "basket of eggs across a ploughed field" dictat.

It did all this. Prototypes were running in the late '30s, and to have lasted as long as it did plenty of people must have thought it a worthwhile form of transportation.

They were built down to a price, for many years one of europe's cheapest brand new cars. Can you imagine them selling many if they had to charge an extra couple of grand for thicker steel/galvanizing?

Anybody who bought one should surely have known what they were letting themselves in for. If you want modern car standards, go buy a Civic.
