2016 Citroen C4 Cactus Nordic Edition 1.2 PureTech 82 from Norway

Summary:

Questionable quality

Faults:

My daughter bought this against my advice. The car was just outside factory warranty, but had a 12 month warranty from a third party and also 30 days open purchase, luckily. I had this inspected by an independent shop, basically what they found:

6 different error codes, including steering angle sensor and cam out of sync.

Wet belt swollen and worn outside of specifications, advised to change cam belt immediately. Advised against driving the car.

Rubber residue found in engine, engine must be flushed.

Several components in suspension worn.

Steering rack probably defective, felt notchy while driving. Sensor or electric motor probably going out.

Driver door sagging, worn hinges and gaskets worn.

Etc etc, you get the idea.

Dealer immediately accepted return of the car without questions when presented with this list.

General Comments:

Very roomy and comfortable considering this was a compact car. Good to drive and decent sound insulation. Interior well laid out. A lot of practical details.

Shame about the quality. These engines are notoriously unreliable (the 1.2 litre petrol), especially the wet belt.

2014 Citroen C4 Cactus Live 1.2 from Lithuania

Summary:

You can be sure it is the best car for the money you pay

Faults:

Nothing at all, but I have only had it for a few months.

General Comments:

Great car, why? Because its price is very competitive; what you pay and what you get is really wow.

In my life, every model I drive for about a year. Before I've had such different cars like: Nissan Qashqai, LR Range Rover Sport, Mazda CX7, VW Touareg, and actually you cannot compare it, but if you look at those cars' prices, sure you think you will get much more, and for some you do get more, but on driving fun, the Cactus beats them all!

Sure it lacks plastic quality, but if you compare it with its competitors (the Juke or Duster), you will see that it is even better. I recommend that you are not afraid to be different, and choose a Cactus :)

I have driven one for 2 years. Poor quality and many problems. Check engine was on very often. Its service was very expensive and the representatives are crap.

Totally agree, we had two at work, cheap cars with gimmicky features, no real substance.

The general build quality on these are extremely poor. And the 1.2 petrol engine has several costly flaws making keeping these cars on the road after 100-120k costly. Can't really be recommended, even low mileage examples. Just steer away.
