2004 Citroen Picasso 1.8 16v from Greece

Summary:

Excellent choice for a family man. Recommended

Faults:

Nothing so far, only the gear knob worn out and replaced at a cost of 45 euros.

Front tyres wear out quite often.

General Comments:

The car has a spacious interior with a lot of storage compartments.

Huge boot (550lt). I can fit the family's baggage and baby trolley easily.

Comfort ride due to soft (but not loose) suspension and well designed seats.

Excellent all around visibility, car stereo and automatic air conditioning.

Average-good build quality.

2004 Citroen Picasso HDi Exclusive 1.5 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Reasonable car, spoiled by technical issues

Faults:

Car has been fitted with numerous turbochargers following engine fault indication on dashboard. Since new the manufacturer has been unable to rectify this recurring fault.

Car fitted with replacement turbocharger boost pressure sensors.

Dashboard speedometer (digital) no longer readable.

Excessive vibration from the engine at idle revs, despite all compression pressures being correct. This fault actually makes the car bounce on its suspension.

Areas of the car (supposedly chrome) are covered in surface rust.

Car required a new clutch at 30,000 miles.

General Comments:

Recurring turbocharger faults could not be corrected during warranty period. Manufacturer will no longer investigate this problem.

I have done an extensive review of the Citroen Picasso (2004 from Botswana), and the only advice I can give is get rid of the thing, move on with your sanity in tact, rejoice in the disposal and live again, free of hassle with any other (non-French) manufacturer.

2004 Citroen Picasso Pack 2.0 HDI diesel from France

Summary:

Extremely reliable tin can

Faults:

The radio appears to be haunted. It turns itself on, makes whining noises, etc.

The tires have to be properly inflated or the car won't run well.

The windshield developed a crack, and the garage (Carglass) installed three different windshields because the replacement windshields were flawed. The current windshield has a long scratch that came with it.

General Comments:

It's an ugly car, but I like it. It is very reliable and comfortable. It doesn't feel solid, though, and the interior and exterior panels don't fit together properly. There are lots of annoying ticking noises from parts tapping together. All the plastic parts are thin and flimsy. Generally, it feels like a tin can full of plastic pieces. I'm not expecting it to age well.

I wrote the original review.

The windshield has deteriorated into a mass of scratches. Driving at night and toward the sun is hard on the eyes.

The car's developed plastic clicking sounds.

The factory tires (Michelin) disintegrated.

There were holes and flaps of rub on the tires, even though the wear bars had not appeared.

The last tune-up reduced the power and speed of the car, and the Citroen garage said it was me, not the car. However, before the tune-up, the car could do about 150kph, but after it, only about 120kph.

There is no added value to taking the car to Citroen for servicing. In fact, it costs much more than Midas, and they use the same parts maker.

The suspension has become spongy, and the car floats like an American car now, kind of pitching and swaying with the slightest bump or breeze. It is a very reliable car: always starts, always gets me to where I want to go, uses very little fuel (diesel), is comfortable, etc. But it has never been a fun car to drive.

2004 Citroen Picasso Trend 1.6 petrol from Greece

Summary:

Good value for money

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

Very roomy, very cheap, low costs to run.

It didn't have any problems at all so far (2 and a half years - 35000 km), but it could have better plastics.

Also, the paint is not of best quality.

A bit slow (the 1.6 petrol).

It has soft suspension which means it is comfortable in highways, but not on roads with turns.

Generally a good value for money.

2004 Citroen Picasso Trend 1.6 petrol from Greece

Summary:

Best value for money

Faults:

Nothing wrong so far. I own the car for about 9 months.

General Comments:

Picasso is a very good family car.

Lots of space for passengers and luggage.

Very comfortable and handles very well.

However it could have a stronger engine. I think that 1.8 version would be perfect.

I think it offers outstanding value for money for the size and equipment level. When I bought it there was a discount (2000 euros), which made it really a bargain.
