1997 Daewoo Tico SX 0.8 petrol from Poland

Faults:

Often suspension and steering system failures (mainly front wheels).

Rusting chassis.

Leaking rear sprinkler tube.

Ignition problems both at wheel and engine.

Generally fragile, chassis dents easily, made from tinfoil.

Engine works loud.

Very hard clutch pedal.

Poor brakes.

General Comments:

Very light, can be pushed around easily.

Acceleration in first 50 kilometers is surprisingly good. With a properly regulated clutch it's possible to successful outrace other cars when starting from red lights. But after reaching higher speeds, the drag eats the power.

Uses around 5-6L/100Km.

The visibility in all directions is very good. Feels like being in an aquarium.

Transport capacity is great.

When turning at higher velocities, it feels like it's going to roll over.

Feels fragile, insecure to drive around.

1997 Daewoo Tico SX 0.8 from Romania

Summary:

This ain't no car. However, it's damn cheap!

Faults:

Some pieces of crap at the service centre told me they had my oil service done, but they actually put in used, only less than 1 liter of used oil, and that partially ruined my engine. At the next oil change there was nothing in the oil bay!!! However, that cost me a full engine repair ($500).

At 10.000 km, the left front wheel blocked, it was because of a faulty brake system.

The braking system is not that good, had it serviced and re-serviced, no improvements still.

Had a clutch exchange at 150.000.

Oil leaked from the engine at 174.000km, paid about $15 to repair it (all costs included).

General Comments:

Car ain't that quick, and "eats" pretty much in the city (more that 7 liters/100 km), the fuel consumption is similar to a 1.9 VW Passat TDI, model that is more comfortable.

If driving outside the city, consumption goes down to about 4 liters/100km.

Parts are very cheap compared to other normal cars, however one can't find some spare parts that easily.

Get an engine oil upgrade to Castrol Magnetic... new oil filter... install a new air filter... clean carburetor totally... Install new spark plugs... drain old coolant & upgrade with Castrol coolant with 80... 20 ratio... 80% percent coolant & 20% of water... Get your radiator cleaned with pressurised water to the whole radiator area... new fuel filter... & new transmission oil...

Things will work great for you... all the best!!!

1997 Daewoo Tico LS 750 from Caribbean

Summary:

A high performance bargain

Faults:

The AC did not work properly whey I got it. But it was repaired for less then $ 20,-

Because the AC is rather small; it needs a lot of time the cool the car. And that we need here in the Caribbean (Curacao)

General Comments:

This is a really nice car. It is small, but great. If you don`t have a lot of money, this is your ride. It is very economic with gas. If you turn on the AC, it uses a lot more, but it is still OK!

There is enough room in the car for three adult`s with their diving gear. I use it a lot when we go diving.

Because it is not a "cool" car, you don`t have to worry that it gets stolen.
