1998 Daewoo Tico SX 0.8 petrol from Croatia

Summary:

Keep away from this "car"!

Faults:

1.Differential

2.Clutch

3.Door lock

4.Problems with transmission

5.Interior lights don't working

6.Oil pump

*All this in just few months.

General Comments:

I give you just the facts for this car:

-Small running costs -that is only good thing for this "car".

-Handling the road is terrible! Fast driving in this car is only for suicidal people.

-Plate is so tiny that impact with a cat or a bird could end tragic. (For you, not for cat)

-Comfort? No way.

-Speed and acceleration? My 80 years old grandpa can run faster than this car.

-Steering is frustrating with that awful big non-ergonomic plastic steering wheel.

-Machine sounds like a dying goat. Imagine.

-Anything can go wrong with this car at anytime.

Keep away from this car for god sake!

It's a non sense because you got the car in 2004, so you don't know for real how many kilometers the car has run...

The speed is over 120km/h, not recommended indeed, with any car. Your grandfather is a car, because a human being can't go as fast?!

1998 Daewoo Tico SX 0.8 from Croatia

Summary:

It puts many more expensive cars to shame!

Faults:

Battery needed to be replaced (of course, due to mileage), also shock absorbers have been changed, minor rust problems on the right rear door, beside that no problems.

General Comments:

Not really great for fast cornering, but it starts like a formula 1:)

REALLY lots of space for the car of that size.

Ventilation and in-cabin warming is unbelieveably good.

Despite its mileage, car is showing no signs of wearing.

4,2/5,5 l of gas (open road/city) - like a first day!

Original reviewer again :)

After 280000 km driven, the Tico was sold to my then-girlfriend in 2006. At that time, it still had the original clutch, with brake pads replaced only once - I know it is hard to believe, but this little car it is simply indestructible.

Now, in 2017, it is still at her possession, it has 330000 on the clock and the engine is still going strong - no need of overhaul. (of course, partly because it was rarely driven at short distances, usual trip was 25-30 km from home to work and not in the city but on the open road, and it was regularly serviced and driven normally, no racing :P )

The only problem was the body rust - got that fixed for peanuts :)

1998 Daewoo Tico SX 0.8 from Hungary

Summary:

A very good bargain car with all the basics, but no luxury

Faults:

The heater/ventilation fan of the passenger compartment stopped at about 55000 km.

Supporting points of the rear parcel shelf in the luggage compartment loosened at about 50000 km (it took only a screw to repair).

General Comments:

Easy to drive, reacts quickly to controls.

Good performance for the small size.

Narrow passenger compartment, very small luggage compartment.

Front window may get foggy in cold and very humid weather.

Really low operation and maintenance cost.

A good buy for max. 2 persons with the capability to occasionally accommodate 4.

1998 Daewoo Tico SX 0.8 normally aspirated from Romania

Summary:

A durable and somehow sporty car

Faults:

A few months ago the alternator belt got a bit loose and drained the battery.

Last year I replaced the back dampers because one had a leak.

A while ago I had to replace a burnt-out light bulb.

The AC has a 5-10 minute lag before it starts, I don't use it that much though.

General Comments:

It's a very reliable car with huge potential.

I had only minor problems with it, even the battery still works, the interior finishing is excellent.

The engine lacks in power a bit, only 41 hp at 5000 rpm, but, with some adjustments that I've done, the car performs very well in street racing in the city.

Due to this the fuel consumption raised to around 10-11 l/100 Km.

I've reached 162-163 Km/h, although they recommend only 134 Km/h, and it performs smoothly even if it gets a bit noisy inside.

1998 Daewoo Tico SL 0.7 from Romania

Summary:

Low consumption, reliable, and funny

Faults:

I am a little uncomfortable because my knee is always on a hard surface.

Is not so rounded corners like the car styles in use, but I like it.

General Comments:

4.2 liter gas per 100 Km outside town, 5.5 liter per 100 km in town.

Fast, reliable and small.

Easy to drive because have a small steering wheel (no power steering) and short course for the pedals.

Small car, and like a toy. Hight 1.4 meters, large 1.4 and length 3 meters. For me, at 1.8 meters, is at my arm-pit. On the inside is quite large.

The back seat is folding and make a lot bigger volume for luggage.

Look like a very small Jeep.

1998 Daewoo Tico SX from Romania

Summary:

Small car, excellent technique!

Faults:

- The A/C system didn't work from the beginning, but I didn't notice when I bought it. It was fixed in the service after half of year of struggling with incompetent mechanics.

- The doors started to make a noise when driving over road irregularities after about 10000 km.

General Comments:

- A very economic little car - 4.2l/100km outside the city and 6l/100km in the city with the A/C turned on.

- Very suitable for city traffic and fast acceleration in the first, second and third gear.

- Very comfortable even though it's so small on the outside, and very reliable even on very long trips.

- Elastic engine helped by an well designed gear-box.
