1987 Daihatsu Charade GTti from Australia and New Zealand - Comments

"Cheap, fun, exciting"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

No faults to occur as yet, apart from a blown coolant hose to the turbo, and one CV joint.

General comments?

The car handles like a dream, it's got a bodykit from Japan, a set of 15' MOMO wheels on it, beats a 2 liter Skyline.

New computer, now has boost running 22psi and still goes nuts.

Overall it's fun and goes like a bullet.

I've got one and they are amazing but come on it will never beat a skyline.

I own a 89 GTti and got it running on 16s with 195-45-16 tyres and some engine tuning, now it does about 135bhp.

Handles great and beats the majority of the big cars, really impressive. As for the Skylines... don't know about that... we don't have those in Holland, but I do think it can beat those 2 wheel driven ones, but not the GT-R.

I have a Charade GTti from '90. It has 157 hp and it will beat the Gti-R at any time.

If you are interested in more facts about the Gtti pls. take a look at:

or just search for GRti on a 'search-engine'

The best car built ;-)

If your car was running 22psi it would be making near 185hp, did you swap the ihi turbo for a garret GT25? as the ihi was only ever good for 170hp.

I used to have a Gtti running on 26psi (garret GT25R turbo) which was good for 220hp at the wheels.

As for a 157hp Gtti beating a GTiR, it would just beat a stock GTiR (stock = 230hp@9psi), but all GTiR's can run 14psi (266HP) without engine work (giving the gtir a power to weight ratio of 4.65kg per HP) so your gtti wouldn't beat it the wastegate was adjusted.

(a 160hp GTTi has a power to weight of 5kg per HP)

I have a 200hp gtti that works all the time at 1.5bars (some times more..) it won't brake or need repair. The car is faster than s2k, type-r, tt, rx8,300z, imprezas and what ever normal or (lightly) tuned "super car" I come across when I go for a ride. It's a great car and it only has 993cc of raw power..

Ps:from the 2nd or 3rd gear.. you cannot beat a 4wd monster from the start..

Great car, but watch out for those little Pulsar ETs. They beat Charades because they are a 1.5 with a bigger turbo. These are also a good car.

I also have one and running 18psi hybrid with microtech ECU 3in zorst and fmic. It can't beat a Skyline GTR though no way. It also can't beat a scooby on wet or loose roads. Only good for straight street race from a rolling start.

Daihatsu Charade GTti is a smashing car. I have one that is 186 bhp with a tubular manifold, rallye spec turbo down pipe, front mount intercooler, drs ecu, oversized bearings, reprofiled cams, hydraulic reset tappets, hybrid CERAMIC turbo, oversized sump and oil filter, fuel defender, oversized injectors, forced air inductor running at 1600watts, boost raised to 19psi, custom ratio gearbox with 6th GEAR!!! modified from the Toyota Corolla G6, six puck paddle clutch, chromomoly super light weight flywheel 2.4mm wider throttle, diamond disks and pads, brembo calipers, 17 inch anteras on 215s and all this in a 1996 DeTomasso!!!

Yeah the car is quick; in fact it's top speed is 143mph and it revs to 11000rpm.

AND ALL THIS FROM 993CC!!!

Next I will get a straight through 5 inch custom stainless exhaust, custom wide arch body kit based on the dimma version for the Peugeot 205gti and maybe NOS.

Say goodbye to:

ae86, ET, Gt-r, Gti-r, WRX, evo1,2,3,4,5,6,7, March Turbo, 5GT, 200sx, 300zx, old M3s, old M5s, TT, Quattro, Type R, S Type.

...and many many more.

I've just got a 1992 GTti and it's a wicked little car. Its got a bigger front mounted intercooler, janspeen exhaust, spax suspension and it goes like stink. I hope to fit a camskill downpipe, electric boost controller and possibly a boost air temp gauge over the next month or two.

Hey Everyone!

I'm a frickin pommy and yes, I do own a GTti, a '92 g100 looking at around 180hp in fact.

I need to know who wrote this comment above; "26th Aug 2007, 14:54.

Daihatsu Charade GTti is a smashing car..."

I've been trying to figure out a 6 speed box for years without luck. I did hear years ago that a bloke in Germany made a direct 6 speed replacement, but alas I cannot find a contact.

If the author of the comment mentioning the Corolla 6 speed box could contact me with any advice or further info, it would be greatly appreciated!! neilisdagreatest@yahoo.co.uk

Cheers chaps!

Neil.
