I replaced the Air Filters, Platinum Points and cleaned the Carburators, and now it does nearly 11-12 KM per Litre in the city! Amazing... how such a big vehicle can move so smoothly and pull so fast even though its powered by a 1300cc engine. One of the most comfortable vehicles ever, very spacious, and easy to drive, even though it has no power steering. Highly recommended vehicle!

1987 Daihatsu Charmant LC 1.3 petrol from Pakistan

Summary:

Would Love to buy it again

Faults:

The Seats have worn out pretty quickly, the transmission and differential of the car makes a very irritating sound even though the oil is changed and is up to the level. Needs to be changed once in two years. Not a bad buy though because of its reliability, cost efficiency and well built suspension.

General Comments:

I am a pretty rash driver and have given the old buster a beating. But hats of to Daihatsu that they have build a formidable rival.

1983 Daihatsu Charmant LE 1.6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Good, reliable transport at a bargain price

Faults:

Head gasket blew at 45,000 miles.

Water pump failed.

Radiator needed replacement.

General Comments:

A superb car for the money, as long as you're only interested in getting from A to B.

My other car is a Porsche 911. When that is in the shop being fixed, I drive the Daihatsu (yes, seriously!) It always starts, even when its been stood for a long time (the longest I've left it is about 9 months).

From the exterior, it's a pretty bland looking old Japanese car. I like the interior, though. I guess I'm a sucker for the 1970s style velour seats, green LCD clock and fake wood (i.e. wood-look plastic) dash!

Noisy at highway speeds (I improved the sound insulation myself, now it's OK).

General Comments:

A ery reliable car, despite the high mileage.

Good car at winter, works no matter how cold it is.
