1985 Dodge Aries 4 door 2.2 electronic carburetor from Finland

Summary:

Cheap commuter vehicle, an American Lada

Faults:

Front shock absorbers worn out, normal wear, but they are McPherson type, so pretty expensive to change.

Electronic carburetor system is really complicated. Prefer -87 or newer with fuel injection. I had to replace it with an older type (1981-83).

Car is like a bulky Toyota with lower quality.

Sort of funny, small "big" car.

Power brake booster failed.

General Comments:

I did not like the front wheel drive and jumpy ride, that's why sold it.

Nowadays parts are quite hard to get. See also allpar.com.

After all, it's not so economical with the automatic transmission, despite its low weight and small size.

The Dodge Aries was one of the fastest, most fuel efficient family vehicles available in the 1980's...Its God's gift to Drivers! It also saved Chrysler from bankruptcy. For more info call me

1985 Dodge Aries GT[GREAT TRANSPORTATION] 2.2 from North America

Summary:

An excellent car

Faults:

The head gasket was bad when I bought the car, but easy fix. replace both axles and coil springs. these are the best cars that anyone on a limited budget can own.

General Comments:

I have several of these cars and are passing them down to my kids. only fault with these cars was the dreaded 2.6 mitsubishi engine "stay clear of these engines." we are going to drop a 318 engine in one (after all there is a driveshaft hump in the floorboard) and we are going to make a pickup out of another one.

1985 Dodge Aries SE 2.6 from North America

Summary:

Great get me around the town car

Faults:

The belt tensioner broke at 160,000 miles. I made a new one in the shop at work.

I also replaced the driver side c/v axle with a used one from an 1987 Caravan.

General Comments:

This car is a great get me around town car. great gas mileage.

I bought the car from my uncle who used the car for a delivery business with no problems.

This car should reach well into 200,000 miles with scheduled maintenance.

The ac still works great. It has been converted to r134a refrigerant.

I also painted the car in my garage for 30 dollars.

It's roomy, but I could do without the rattles.
