1993 Dodge Caravan SE 3.3 from North America

Summary:

Damn good all rounder

Faults:

Water pump needed replacing recently.

Left signal light blinks very quickly.

General Comments:

For an almost ten year old car, it handles beautifully.

The interior is very pleasant.

It has never let us down, and starts every time, even in the worst weather conditions.

Sure, it has had one or two glitches such as the water pump, but at nine years old and worked hard I think that's understandable and acceptable.

When the time comes I'll be sorry to see it go. I'd have another Dodge Caravan (or Chrysler Voyager) in a heartbeat.

1993 Dodge Caravan LE from North America

Summary:

Fair and Reliable (to a point)

Faults:

Since I owned the Van there has been a loud clunking in the rear when I would come to a stop or park the van.

It also leaked oil from day one and tried several things to correct the problem without having to replace the engine, but with no luck!

Rear brakes were defective from day one so had those replaced.

Stereo system never worked as there was some kind of faulty short in the system who knows why that was??

Picked up a lot of speed, but when trying to pull out fast it would want to die out.

The Cruise Control never worked.

The a/c never worked.Had it charged, but that wasn't the problem.

Constantly putting in oil every 300 miles.

General Comments:

Overall in the 2 years I have owned it,it was a good running van with lots of room and comfortable to ride in for a family of 5,despite always having to put oil in it from the leaking I loked it and for the fact some kid blew up the inside and totalled it out on the 4th of July.

1993 Dodge Caravan Base 2.6 liter 6 cylinder from North America

Summary:

A real dependable workhorse

Faults:

The only problem I have experienced with this vehicle is the cooling fan. The motor burned out and I had an extremely hard time locating a new one. I finally found one, but had to purchase the entire shroud, motor, and blades instead of just a motor. This, however, was just over $200.

General Comments:

This vehicle is a wonderful machine.

It is a work van that my boss purchased used from AT&T and we have driven it hard. We haul ladders, wire, and components around all the time, sometimes accumulating quite a heavy load, and this vehicle still performs quite impressively. It still has enough power to accelerate up steep grades and feels like it has plenty more to spare.

The interior is very comfortable, and the controls are very user friendly. This van has been driven great distances and I have never felt really uncomfortable.

I do, however, dislike the glove compartment. Every time you open it, stuff comes sliding out at you. It can be a serious pain, especially if you have a lot of stuff in there.

1993 Dodge Caravan Sport 3.0 L six from North America

Summary:

Caravans are expensive to own

Faults:

Transmission (they all go on Caravans)... it was rebuilt and expensive. I paid a grand with no labor charges.

Belts and normal wear and tear.

I just did the power steering and belt at 165000.

The van now smokes like crazy and I must put in motor "honey" to calm the smoking somewhat. This is due to valve seals that sink in (in the head). This is also expensive to fix. They must send out the head to a machine shop. Costs at least 800 easily. I am going to deal with the smoke and not get this done.

General Comments:

This car has a Mitsubishi engine. Well, if it was not for the garbage transmissions in these cars and the faulty valve seals (nearly all high mile Mitsubishi engines get this), the van would be alright. The V6 gives ample power for a van and comfort is about standard. I simply would not get one due to the problems I mentioned. They are NOT isolated incidents either. I own it so I will drive it until it dies or smokes so bad at can't get it inspected.
