1987 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z 2.2 intercooled turbo from North America

Summary:

Awesome

Faults:

Timing belt broke at 63000 miles, but was my fault for not having it changed!

General Comments:

I bought my 87 Shelby Z brand new, and drag raced it at Englishtown NJ for 6 years, and drove the heck out of it on the track and on the street, and never broke anything ever!

It now has 76000 miles on it in 2010! If you keep it properly maintained and let the turbo cool down before shutting off the engine, it will last a very long time!

The drive train is bullet proof if you know how to drive properly. There is a fine line between driving hard and plain abuse!

With a few easy modifications, these cars are Mustang and Camaro eaters, and handle fantastic on twisty roads!

The suspension is hard on bumpy uneven pavement, just like a big block B body Mopar, but that's the way I like it!

1987 Dodge Daytona Base 2.5L TBI from North America

Summary:

This car is my second best to my 1968 Dodge Charger 440 six pack

Faults:

The driver's side window crank broke off.

The passenger outside door handle doesn't work.

Some minor body dents, clear coat is peeling.

Front window wipers don't work, and doesn't like to idle when cold (-40) (-10) (I do live in the Canadian arctic).

General Comments:

I love this car, it is great up here in Yellowknife on snow and ice. The car is fairly fast for a non turbo 2.5L motor.

I would like to juice the HP up a bit, but can't find much to do that. If you know of any way, email me at ski_doo_er@hotmail.com

THANKS, JORDAN.

1987 Dodge Daytona pacifica 2.2L turbo from North America

Summary:

Awesome performance, comfort, mileage, and inexpensive too!

Faults:

Number three cylinder oil ring broke 130,000 miles.

Passenger side outboard axle broken when purchased.

Rear engine cam seal button came out during driving at 129,950 miles.

Transmission shifts hard between first and second, and doesn't always downshift until stopping completely.

General Comments:

Incredibly great handling car with awesome gas mileage.

Most comfortable seats I have ever sat in anytime in any vehicle. (mine are the "enthusiast seats", as dodge named them)

Looks sharp even after 17 years of wear and tear.

Stops on a dime, gives a nickel change with the upgraded four wheel disc brakes.

One of the fastest four cylinder cars I have driven.

I am still trying to get a new engine, but they seem rather inexpensive. I can't wait to run 18 pounds of boost and add an inter-cooler. True Honda and Mustang/Camaro killer.

I fixed transmission shift problem with a new filter and 5 quarts of Trick-Shift from B&M Performance. Shifts perfectly now!

1987 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z 2.2 turbo from North America

Summary:

This car has performance, gas mileage, and longevity, Dodge needs to make more cars like these!

Faults:

Fan relay sticking, two different occasions.

Alternator failed, two different occasions.

Radiator leaked.

P-seals around T-tops gone, tops leak.

Under hard acceleration the front end wobbles.

Both rear brake calipers were sticking.

Parking brake cables stick.

Tilt-wheel lock broke.

General Comments:

This car gives me 34 mpg consistently if I don't drive it hard. With the turbo power there when I need it, it can out perform many V-8's.

It still has it's original stainless steel gas tank and exhaust system! (My F-150 went through three gas tanks before I got rid of it, and that was an 89)

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

I have a white 1988 Shelby Z Daytona--I am the original owner and I LOVE THIS CAR!!! It just turned 104,000 miles and just his year I had to replace the turbo. It has the factory T-Tops and as many of the bells and whistles that Dodge had then... I don't have the leather interior, but I love the grey velour like seats... especially in the winter. I just fixed my first piece of rust this year... otherwise this car is just great to drive. My brother has a black/gold 86 Turbo Z and I can outdo him...
