1987 Dodge Diplomat Salon 318 V8 (5.2L) from North America

Summary:

Excellent road trip/daily driver vehicle

Faults:

I replaced all shocks, re-manufactured alternator, new 4 barrel holly carb., new battery, and new brakes drums/rotors.

General Comments:

It is one of the most reliable cars I've owned, I drove it up Mt Washington and I've taken it into NYC many times. I would drive it across the country if I had the time. I've put over 25000 miles on it in the 1 year I've had it.

The only thing negative about the car is the gas mileage, but that was understood when I purchased it.

1987 Dodge Diplomat Salon 5.2 (318) V8, 4 bbl carb from North America

Summary:

One of the most reliable cars I've had, phenomenal when you consider the mileage.

Faults:

The car had a bad battery when I purchased it, which is more the fault of the previous owner than of the car.

General Comments:

The car has no problem doing freeway speeds and much faster.

However, every time you depress the accelerator pedal, you can almost hear cash registers ringing up another high-dollar fuel sale. Gas mileage is between 15 and 20, usually closer to 15.

1987 Dodge Diplomat SE 5.2 from North America

Summary:

Comfortable car with bad gas mileage

Faults:

Fuel pump died.

Fuel lines rusted out.

AC was dead when I got the car.

Drivers side window does not work.

Alignment impossible to keep for more than 600 miles.

Carburator was dead when purchased vehicle.

Timing impossible to keep right.

General Comments:

This car is very over powered for its size, on wet roads it slides all over the place while accelerating.

This particular car was plagued with problems because the previous owner did not take care of it.

It gets very poor gas mileage, which the way gas prices are now is a bad thing.

It does have a comfortable ride and has a lot of foot room and cargo space.

Bad gas mileage? Not for a V-8... especially one hooked to 3-speed automatic transmission. The problem is the 18 gallon fuel tank (too small for both the engine and body)
