1993 Dodge Dynasty LE review from North America
"Just... wow. Good car."
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Original transmission was dodgy until from outset until I had it rebuilt at around 90,000 miles. Expensive to fix at close to $1500.
Replaced the water pump at 140,000.
Muffler and exhaust replaced at 150,000.
Other than that regular maintenance. No, really.
General comments?
This has undeniably been the most reliable car I have ever driven: a total breath of fresh air coming from a 1988 Audi 5000 which was nothing but a nightmare.
The gas mileage is more than satisfactory for a mid-size sedan.
The leg room is great! When I first laid eyes on it I thought I would be much more cramped. It reminded me of Jeannie's bottle. Smaller exterior, but a surprisingly roomy interior overall. However, I am not as pleased with the elbow room.
This has more to do with personal preference, but I am a rear-wheel drive person. I do not like the feedback I get in the steering wheel during hard driving.
The car I purchased used comes with the Chrysler Infinity Sound system. It sounded amazing. But, if you ever want to do a stereo upgrade, expect a hassle. The wiring is not fun (neither to nor from the speakers or a sub-amp.)
The styling is dated for the year, but this is the last model year for this car. I am more lenient with this considering this car was on the drawing board from 1986-1987; I am sure grandma was pimping it with her popped collar. Rock out, Golden Girl.
The handling is sloppy, but you know the deal with suspension trade-offs. The ride is rather comfortable. The seats also enhance overall comfort.
Also, the acceleration of the 3.3L is eye-opening. Not the fastest thing I have driven, but I was surprised how quick it was after having the transmission rebuilt, replacing the air filter, and using premium grade fuel. It has some nice torque!
And lastly, I have owned this car (which I bought used) for almost seven years. It has been very, very good to me getting me through college, grad school, and two poorly-paying jobs. Owning this car has been like making friends with a modest, down-to-earth, reliable, but still very enjoyable friend. If only there were a flavored instant coffee to celebrate this moment of our lives...
