After reading some pretty shocking comments on the SXT, I felt I should give my own experience to any expectant SXT buyer.

I have a 2003 that I bought used about a year ago, and I have NEVER had a single problem with this car. I feel that if you maintain and take care of ANY car, it will not give you much trouble. I have not had to dish out a single dollar on fixing anything since I bought it. So I agree with one of the above comments about the other disappointed buyers either not taking care of it, or having really bad luck.

Believe me, I do not drive my car like a granny. I admit that I could drive it better, not so much stop and step on it, but even with my driving I still find this little car to be not only stylish, but also very reliable.

I agree that the Neon’s were not to meant to last as long as a Toyota or any other non-US made vehicle….but you get what you pay for, and I have to say that the Dodge Neon SXT is worth the price.

Most of these are bogus with people who have nothing better to do with their time.

I have a 2003 Dodge Neon SXT. I was wondering what the square box is over the transmission pan which is on the front driver side. It is leaking transmission fluid. Someone said it was the transmission control box seal, someone else said it was the solenoid. Car has 79,000 miles. Also when it rains really hard my battery light comes on when I stop and my headlights go out. When I start forward again the battery light goes off and my lights come back on. Have had the battery light problem for months now and no one can figure out what is wrong (this includes the dealer).

I am an owner of a 2003 Dodge Neon SXT and until recently have not had a single problem with this car. This past week the transmission fluid began leaking inside the radiator and eventually flowing out of the overflow outlet of the engine coolant reservoir. I now have a mixture of engine coolant and transmission oil in my transmission and coolant lines. I am replacing the radiator and flushing the transmission and coolant lines to hopefully fix this problem. The only issue that could cause a significant problem is if the water that may have gotten into the transmission has disturbed any seals or pads within the transmission.

I have a 2003 Neon SXT. I bought the car brand new and have had no problems with it until about a month ago, when it started leaking from under the glove box. I have had a mechanic look at it, and at first they thought it was the blower plugged up, but after cleaning it out, it still leaked. They then siliconed the area under the windshield grate, which helped, but water is still collecting somewhere because when I accelerate after it has rained, water pours out onto the passenger floorboard. The water doesn't leak in when I am driving in the rain, only when it has had time to collect. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it the windshield or something else? My mechanic is stumped.

I am about ready to go buy a 2003 dodge neon SE. the place that I am buying it from wants 7900 for it. I have taken it for a test drive and it runs great! My brother told me that I am being ripped off, but my dad has looked the car up, and he says that the price is pretty reasonable for it. I don't care though because it is going to be my first car and I am working everyday after school to make the payments on it. Just let me have my car please. it's beautiful and I am going to take good care of it.

You can have it in full confidence. I own the second Neon and it worth every penny. In four years, just small inexpensive annoyances. Now, it has 156k kms on the clock and still running great.

Hard to love a car that leaves you stranded for the fifth time.

Like clockwork, the transmission self destructed at 63000, just past the warranty. $1600 later, and now the oil pump is going. the camshaft sensor is on the fritz as well. My old nissan 2 door sentra, which I gave away because of oil leaks and 125000 is still going at 200000 with no major engine problems what so ever. I guess wisdom will dictate that next time, buy Japanese.

I have had my 2003 Dodge Neon SXT for three years now. It was running great until about 2 months ago. It started idling rough, so I had the O2 sensors changed, and the fuel pump. $500 later it still doesn't seem to be running the same, and occassionally my dashboard lights and radio will just pop like a fuse has blown out, flickers off for a second and then turns back on. I like my car, but I am at a point that I don't trust it anymore. I will never by a Dodge or associated product again. I am not a Neon hater, I like my car like I said, but it is not reliable. I take care of my car, and do not drive it eratically, so I just don't understand whats going on... it only has 35,000 miles.

For everyone who has a leak in trunk. Check your tail lights. I have 03 neon sxt. My car was for three days in fairbanks dodge service and nobody could find that leak. I got mad and I looked at it myself and found it in one hour. What a dump people.

I just bought a 2003 dodge neon sxt and I'm going to pick it up on Monday. I know the dealer I bought it from won't screw me over because my mom bought 2 vehicles from them before. also, it all depends on who you get it from, previous owners, how you drive it, and if you do regular maintenance on it. on this site, I find tons of bad reviews, but i'll just stick to getting advice from people I know and can trust. stop bitching, you get what you paid for (and for most of the people with problems, you get what you don't pay for)

I have a 2003 Dodge Neon SXT. In July of 2007, it started mixing transmission fluid in antifreeze in the radiator. I fixed this problem, but apparently not fast enough. Now I have a heater core problem. When your heater core goes out in the neon, your neon will fog the windshield up and shoot a fog of antifreeze in your face. The heater core for a neon cost close to 100 bucks. I also had to replace two broken motor mounts. The radiator problem also caused the thermostat to go out, I was fortunate enough to have the thermostat to stick open when it went out. The factory battery last about 4 years, so for all you out that has a neon... expect to replace it in 4 years. The driver side door speaker busted a few months ago. I love my neon... but I am starting to consider to trade it in on something else. I know parts don't last forever.. but I think a radiator should last more than four years and from other feedbacks that I have read, I am not the only one with this problem. I just hope I don't ever have the "water coming inside my car" problem. And if you know how hard it is to change the fuel filter, let me know, I heard that it was in the gas tank.

You guys all do realize that the newer Neons are Japanese-made motors. All you people talking about how much better Japanese cars are, need to realize Dodge uses Mitsubishi technology for their motors. I have the 2003 Neon r/t and it runs better than any car I have ever driven; even the 2006 Mazda 6 I drove as a rental. Dodge has turned their company around recently so just take car of your car.
