1981 Fiat 127 Top 1.05 petrol from Egypt

Summary:

A fast economic City car

Faults:

Clutch wire was cut at 138500.

CV joint at 143000.

Hock absorber at 150000.

Exhaust at 150000.

Some minor consumable parts (spark plugs, filters, belts...etc)

Interior needs a lot of repair.

General Comments:

Economic car with good performance as a city car. Spare parts are easy to be found and relatively cheap (but not long lasting). Within its class it is a fast car. Engine is the best thing in the car. It give enough power to accelerate very well. Handling is excellent (cannot imagine power steering can be better than that). Although it can reach very high speeds (more than 120 Km per Hr), but at such high speed the car become unstable. Even the wind can make the car flow. The worst thing about it is the suspension. I live in a suburban, where the roods are of poor quality. Driving in such kind of roads give the feeling that the wheels are about to break off the car. Regular maintenance is the key to keep the car reliable. Boot is huge. Seats are not very comfortable. Petrol consumption is 11.3 Km/L in city and 13.5 Km/L in highways. Very good starter choice.

1979 Fiat 127 900/L 0.9 from France

Summary:

Funny looking starter classic

Faults:

The rubber brake link pipes cracked and had leaks.

The vinyl of the seats is disintegrating.

General Comments:

Fun spartan little car. Will run forever if not brutalized. Spare parts are really cheap. if you can, buy the spares in Spain. I paid 3 € for a brand new front turning light.

Seats four in comfort. Trunk is great.

The engine is bullet-proof.

Not the nicest car in the world, but funny looking.

No servo brake, no power steering, no electric windows, no air conditioning, no radio, no cigarette lighter, no fog lights... there is little that can go wrong!

Beware of rust. This car is protected with Spanish weather standards. If you live in a wet country, just don't buy this car unless it has been well cherished.

1995 Fiat 127 Spazio TR 1.4 Tipo from Argentina

Summary:

Is part of my heart

Faults:

The car have problems but its depend of the kind of use it have.

The crankshaft give up, but is a very common problem in Fiat's, I spouse that is because of the use that it have.

Seats have started to wear badly.

The rust its very common, but is something know in Fiat.

General Comments:

It's a great car, fan, fast and very cheap. Its very hard and uncomforutable, but is really a race car. Its look like a big kart, I use and abuse this car and hes still alive, it's a great engine (1.4 Tipo) it's one of the best engines Fiat ever made, Aurelio Lampredi's hit. Fiat's sound is addictive.

1972 Fiat 127 Base 903cc from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Zippy and exuberant

Faults:

Oil pump relief valve jammed open. Luckily I checked the new one before fitting and found it jammed solid with swarf, very poor quality.

Body rust was pretty bad, one day I tried to wind up the window and the wire and pulley mechanism just ripped out of the bottom of the door.

Starting became difficult, cumulative wear in fuel pump cured by building up pushrod with weld (!)

General Comments:

I bought this car for commuting, it turned out to be a lot of fun. It would blow away mini 1275GT any time, top speed 93mph.

Also just keeping a light right foot would get over 50 mpg.

Drives like a go-kart, especially now that I've changed the wheels and suspension.

It's actually rather comfortable when you consider that it is a 22 year old car.

It's a car that makes you want to drive. It's fun and very easy handled.

I had one of these for my first car, 1049cc OHC motor with 3 door body in midnight blue. Went OK, stopped OK, handled very well for a 1980 car. Great fun for a first car, although mechanicals were fragile apart from the engine. Managed to break a half shaft whilst enjoying the last 2-3mm of front tyre tread on a car park roof one Sunday afternoon! (with a 1.05l engine!!!)

Worth a thought if you want dead cheap transport.
