2014 Fiat Ducato 30 L1H1 2.3 Multijet turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

One of the best and most economical vans you can find

Faults:

Starting and fuel problems, cold start failures, fuel pressure issues, faulty sensors, and clogged filters. These are all easy issues to fix.

The check engine light came on due to valve problems, as a result of oil loss from the turbo, which requires periodic service every 10,000 miles.

I also had problems with the brakes and clutch. Squealing brakes due to wear or problems with the rotors and pads, as well as clutch slippage.

The clutch eventually broke after 120,000 miles and inevitably had to be replaced.

General Comments:

It's a van I highly value, first of all because it's very economical; it consumes very little fuel, whether you drive it in the city or on the highway. This is essential for those who use their vehicle as a work tool.

It is also very powerful and agile, with good maneuverability on urban routes despite its size. Its balanced suspension also provides excellent ride comfort. The steering is supple and precise, and the suspension provides excellent ride comfort, absorbing uneven terrain well.

Safety is another of the Ducato's strong points, as it comes equipped as standard with systems such as electronic stability control (ESC), ABS, ASR and hill start assist.

Fiat's Multijet engine is the best of the diesels; it's not too noisy, has enough power for overtaking with great thrust and agility, especially at low revs. It is very comfortable to drive at speeds above 80 mph as the engine has great response and stability, allowing for driving very similar to that of a car.

The L1H1 model is the smallest of the Ducatos, so cabin storage is the biggest drawback, especially for those who use the vehicle for work; storage space in the driver's area is limited.

In my case, I work for a bakery, and it's fine for me; for other types of work, a larger van may be necessary.

2016 Fiat Ducato 35 Maxi L2H2 2.3 Multijet from Denmark

Summary:

Good machine, effective, useful for work

Faults:

Around 100,000 km the clutch problems started, it was very noisy when pressed, luckily it was nothing more than that so it didn't need to be replaced.

Typical electronic problems in a modern vehicle: the oil lights come on every now and then even if there's no shortage of oil, so as long as it's not a specific problem, I don't give it any importance; it doesn't affect performance either.

In my case I travel a lot on the road and I had the previous trucks serviced every 15,000 km, since I drive on all highways, but oh surprise, on this one it must be serviced every 7,500 km, otherwise the oil pressure light comes on (flashes continuously ) and therefore one is forced to go to a dealership to have it reset (a specialized mechanic can do it but it is better to do it at an official dealership).

General Comments:

It's quite comfortable, although the seats are a bit hard for me. The ride is smooth and it's very easy to maneuver. It's a great vehicle for both cruising and work, very reliable, and has excellent brakes. The suspension is finely tuned to be both engaging and comfortable to drive, and the steering is just right for a large van, so you don't have to fight it around every corner.

It handles really well on the highway at speeds of 130 km/h or more.

The van's space is truly spacious, very useful for work. Due to its versatility, it's one of the most popular camper vans in Europe. It's also galvanized, a big difference from the Sprinter I had, so rust isn't a problem; this is especially important if you live in a cold and humid climate.

I must also say that it is indeed economical when traveling at 100 or 110 km/h, but above that speed the consumption increases, although not too much, but it is not advisable to drive it at higher speeds, taking into account that due to the advanced nature of the engine it requires the use of the highest quality diesel. However, it consumes much less fuel than vans of the same size such as the Transit or the Sprinter.

Being one of the cheapest vans on the market, it is an economical vehicle of acceptable quality.
