2005 Fiat Multipla Dynamic 1.6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Disappointing and fault ridden

Faults:

When I collected the brand new car the back passenger door had a shadow on it which turned out to be a deeper shade of paint.

The black trim around the doors started to come away this happened twice, but it is now in the process of coming away again for the third time.

The engine management unit became faulty, but could not be replaced as there was none in stock. it was replaced after a couple of months.

The lumbar support broke twice.

The reversing sensors went twice.

The rear seat belt buckles fail to retract properly, causing the buckle to smash the plastic trim at the seat hinge, when trapped between that and the closing door.

Last week the hand brake would not let go of the back wheels when it was let off. I had to leave the car at home until later in the day when I checked it started to work OK again.

Recently I started the car one morning and it gave me some strange message about the engine.

Finally in the last few days the boot door has taken on a mind of its own ; sometimes it won't stay shut parked or not, you are driving along and the door open warning light comes on you stop and after several attempts to close the boot door it stays shut, but then it won't open and cannot be opened for several hours or even overnight it is then open the next time you check and then the whole process begins all over again. the garage repaired this, but a week later it has happened again.

General Comments:

Having had the pleasure of owning a 2003 model from new we are quite disappointed with the new 2005 model.

We have had many problems with this car and it has got to the point that we don't know what is going to happen with it next.

The reason we buy a new Car is to avoid all of the problems associated with the second hand car market as we need a safe and reliable vehicle to carry our children and ourselves.

Now we find we are no better off after purchasing a new car with a price tag of €26k.

The dealer is not quite helpful when asked to sort things out.

For sometime we have had no peace of mind or confidence in the reliability of this vehicle.

I have also traded my old shape for the new one. The 2005 model is great except for the black trimmings around the windows which will be replace for the third time next week. Fiat will have to address this problem and recall all the new shape Multipla's with the black trimmings, once they have found a solution to the problem.

We too have a 2005. We also had a rear seat belt that would not retract, the dealer were very rude and unhelpful. We also have had the black vinyl trim around the windows replaced and its started going again. The most worrying problem is poor welding to the door hinges, the front top door hinge is coming away, others on this site have also reported this problem, this is a major safety issue and should be recalled ASAP, I am going to take this up with Fiat.

2005 Fiat Multipla JTD 1.9 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Could be better built

Faults:

Front tyre wear on inner edge, this noticed at 9000 miles. Tappet noise intrusive into cab, at 10000 miles.

General Comments:

This is in fact the second Multipla we`ve had, the first was replaced free of charge by Fiat. That one was a real nightmare! We are again in dispute with Fiat, this present car has some of the previous car`s faults.

The car does give room for six without the long body, and is reasonably good in it`s field,- a family car.

My first Multipla was also replaced by Fiat South Africa due to some accident damage before delivery to me as new. The new Multipla however has black trimmings around the windows that are peeling in the sun. It was replaced 3 times already in the last year.

We had our first mult. replaced by Fiat too! The second car shows,as did the first abnormal front tyre wear, which seems due to an excessive CAMBER angle. Am tackling Fiat over this as 3 sets of tyres in 24,000 mls, where there is no abuse, tracking is on course,-is grounds for complaint!

Contacted: Fiat, CRF (Fiat`s research bods), Vehicle Operator & Service Agency (gov.body), Eurosafe, Trad Stands, & looked at various sites for info. Fiat have `opened` a case file, will see what unfolds!
