1999 Fiat Seicento S review from Poland
"Good city animal"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Vibration of the speedometer gauge at low temperatures. Speedometer shaft replaced.
Engine temperature sensor replaced at 20kkm.
2nd speed synchronizer cracked at 30kkm.
Interior lamp keeps working all the time, no matter I need it or not. Simply disconnected.
Parking brake linkage and rear releasing levers seem to be badly constructed. Almost impossible to operate the brake every 2 years. Replaced twice.
Starter didn't work during the wet and cold weather. Well, actually it ran, but freely, without driving the engine. Really annoying. Probably drive pinion insufficiently secured from dirt and water. Requires dismantling and cleaning every 1-2 years.
And the usual wear: tires, shock absorbers at 70kkm, rear suspension bushes, rear silencer.
General comments?
The little car has covered 120kkm of tough and enthusiastic ride, mostly as a daily city commuter.
My previous car was an XR2 Fiesta. Fiesta's acceleration on the straight line has been obviously better, but overall victory for seicento as it's much more convenient for the city traffic.
All in all I was surprised by the nippy handling and vital little engine when I first got it as new. Unfortunately the handling noticeably deteriorated, which means probably front suspension to be replaced soon.
The maintenance isn't pricey. The consumption: 4.5 - 8.5 l/km which I find reasonable. Most parts are cheap and easy to find here in Poland.
