1985 Ford F250 XLT DIESEL 4X4 6.9L IDI from North America

Summary:

Tough truck

Faults:

The glow plug controller failed, and was causing the glow plugs to come one every 20 seconds. Easy fix is to wire in a manual glow plug switch.

Power window switch broke, replaced alternator, voltage regulator.

General Comments:

Great motor, all mechanical, tough tranny, sounds great.

1985 Ford F250 4 x 4 LXT 6.9 turbo diesel from North America

Summary:

Best truck I've ever had

Faults:

Glow plug does not work. No matter how many times we fix it, it fails.

General Comments:

Beautiful truck. Rusted around wheels, but tows livestock trailer and family trailer with ease. My children's children will have this truck.

1985 Ford F250 351W from North America

Summary:

If you need a worker, this is your choice

Faults:

Door handle broke. Interior stuff broke. Small wiring problem.

General Comments:

This truck is great. I wouldn't trade it in for anything. Good workhorse, hauls stuff really nice, very powerful. The body is beat to death, and the interior stuff is broke, but its still the rig of choice for driving around. I drive it every day and I love it.

I agree that these Fords are aw some. I recently bought a 1985 f250 and am very impressed with the power. I admit it, s a little hard on my pocket with the gas prices, but, I am a firm believer in the 460 mine has in it. Thank you Ford for the great workhorse.

1985 Ford F250 XLT 6.9L diesel from North America

Summary:

An awesome truck, truly a real workhorse

Faults:

Replaced the alternator a few times.

Replace a couple gears in the 4 speed tranny.

Body is so rusted it is about ready to ball off.

General Comments:

This 1985 Ford F-250 Diesel 4x4 4 speed is the best truck I have ever owned it has over 1 million miles on that old 6.9L diesel. But it still runs like new it does not smoke, or make any weird noises. The motor is all stock, Rods, mains everything, it has never been apart, not even for head gaskets. I don't care when people talk about how good those Cummins motors are I am a firm believer in the old IH 6.9L Diesel. Dodges are junk anyway without the Cummins they wouldn't even have a truck to sell!

I couldn't agree more. I own a 1986 F250 6.9L diesel and it is the best truck I have ever owned. Never had any major problems with it, just regular maintenance and that's all. I am a firm believer in Fords being better than the their competitors. You're right about Dodge- with out the Cummins engine you couldn't give them away.. Larry.
