1997 Ford F350 Crew Cab from North America - Comments

"Best truck that I have ever owned by far"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The power steering pump cracked at approximately 100000 miles and had to be replaced.

One fuel injector started leaking at 120000 miles and had to be replaced. This was rather expensive.

General comments?

If you want a tough truck with more power than you'll ever use, this is it. I pull a fifth wheel with it and have never longed for more power climbing hills. I can set the cruise on 70mph and never have to down shift.

This truck has been taken on many long trips. It's very comfortable.

I couldn't ask for better fuel mileage. Empty on the highway I have gotten as high as 27mpg. In town an average of 19. For a truck that weighs over 9000 pounds I think this is outstanding. This is better than the F150 that I owned prior to this one.

Over all this is a super truck and I plan on driving it at least 500000 miles.

27 mpg, I do not believe you.

I agree, 27 mpg sounds sketchy for an F350.

I have a 97 F350 standard cab, with 265 75 16 mud tires and I get alittle over 20 on the highway if I keep it around 55-60. I've never heard of 27, I do have a cold air intake, superchip, and exhaust... but the chip claims to increase mpg slightly...I've never been happier with a truck, it feels like you could drag a fire truck down the road.

I love Fords. But I have to say that the 27mpg is pretty hard to believe. I am sorry, but that seems way too much for that truck.

27mpg, probably a typo. Should be 17mpg I think. Still good though. Better than my 1994 Grand Cherokee AWD with 5.2L V8 - I got 14-18mpg with that and it's a small vehicle. That Cherokee was very bad for towing (handling), but great for off-roading.

Yeah 27 seems absolutely insane, the only V8 engine I've ever heard of reaching that kind of mileage on the highway is a Buick Roadmaster with the LT1 350, and that's maybe 25 at best.

Yeah 27 sounds a little steep. Maybe he meant 24... (4 is right under 7 on the keypad right?) 24 could be feasible from what I've heard. Mine averages about 19, but it's bone stock. I hear exhaust, cold air intake, and a chip will put you in the low to mid twenties... if you keep out of it...

I agree it's gotta be 24 cause that's a lot easier to believe, and it is a diesel, those do get really good gas mileage. I get about 16-20 mpg in town depending on how I drive.

I don't believe it as a type-o. I think he was knowingly exaggerating to make his article sound better. I drive an average of 4000 miles a week hauling 5th wheels and I get better than 90 % of the guys I pull with. I have a 02 Crew Cab Dually 4x4 Manual tranny & I average 21 MPG empty & 11-14 MPG loaded. The 7.3L is phenomenal.

My only problem with my 97 F350 crew cab 4X4 is a bad shimmy I get in the front end when I am doing 45 to 50 MPH. I have had it checked many times, and have been told the front suspension is in good shape. If anyone has had this trouble, I would like to know the fix. Otherwise this is one great truck. I have 170,000 + miles on it and it runs very strong.
