2016 Ford Fiesta Eco-boost Titanium 1.0 petrol from UK and Ireland
Summary:
Avoid wet-belt engines
Faults:
Was fine until the timing belt snapped, writing off the engine.
General Comments:
Modern Fiesta is a fine little car if you get one with a good engine.
Fun to drive and peppy.
Good looking and cheap to run (generally).
But I got unlucky, I was told the belts on these are good till 100K miles, but mine snapped early.
I scrapped it, not worth the cost of repair.
Try a Fiesta with any other engine and you might be OK; avoid anything badged "Eco-Boost" on petrol from Ford.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

I would in general avoid newer petrol engines from Ford. It's not only the 1.0 Ecoboost but also the 1.5 and the 1.1 non turbo that's based on the 1.0. The 1.1 must be the worst turd out there. The 1.0 Ecoboost is at least peppy and frugal until they detonate, the 1.1 is underpowered and real world mpg is much higher than the Ecoboost. So no benefits with the 1.1 and only problems.

After 5 years I would have inspected these belts every year. Unfortunately it requires some disassembly, typically 1 hour if you've done it before. But usually it's easy to spot a failing belt. You'll see the swelling and the deterioration. The belt will be 2-3 mm wider than spec. And you'll see smaller chunks of rubber that is missing. Another tip is using a scope through the oil drain plug. Often you'll see rubber sludge in the oil sump. The signs are usually there.

Wow, that must have been a big financial loss. I hope you find a good car.
