1998 Ford Galaxy Ghia X 2.3i from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Ford supplied headlamp covers will not fit without severe modification, the headlamp design has changed in last 6 months.

The paint on my car is very prone to stone chip damage, 10 weeks old 3500 miles and 30 stone chips!! I await Fords verdict.

Dealer service will go down if they fail to sort this problem!

I seem to get 23 MPG hence the running costs = 7.

Fuel consumption could be better if they gave it a real overdrive top gear, but then performance would suffer.

General Comments:

Leather seat option is excellent! If you buy in Belgium you can have the Ghia-X with leather seats + alarm + metalic paint for the price of a GLX in the UK!

This engine option gives the Galaxy the performance of a 2 litre saloon, not bad for 1750 kg and a tall car.

1998 Ford Galaxy Ghia X 1.9 110BHP turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Water pump - at 14,000 miles.

Glovebox handle fell apart.

Rear quarter glass smashed during break-in - took a month to get replacement glass of the correct (dark) tint.

Climate Control failure indicated at 14,500.

General Comments:

Excellent drive, astonishing economy.

Ghia X pack worth the additional cost for climate control and cruise alone.

If this is really Volkswagen quality, then I'm surprised and a little disappointed!! On balance, great vehicle though.

Either it's a good car or it's a bad car. What do you mean when you say you are surprised and disappointed? The very next line is gushing with praise. So which is it to be?

1998 Ford Galaxy Ghia X 2.3 from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Alloy wheel trim centres fall off (lost!).

Glovebox has fallen apart - some other trim items appear fragile.

Engine revs increase whilst idling at traffic lights (rarely).

General Comments:

A fine, fast and comfortable vehicle suitable for long distance and local family use. Let down by trim items breaking or falling off. It is supposed to be a family car but I suspect the interior will rapidly look tired after my family has occupied it for a while.
