2002 Ford Galaxy Zetec 2.3 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

OK, but fuel economy ruins it

Faults:

Seat tip knobs fall off.

Heater never worked properly despite dealer inspection.

Noisy interior trim (rattles etc)

General Comments:

Drives quite well, but very underpowered.

Terrible fuel economy, 20mpg at a push.

Generally relaiable, but low mileage yet.

Fairly comfortable, but seats a bit hard on long journeys.

Would not buy again - not at this price. My last one was a diesel a completely different kettle of fish. Couldn't afford another one.

Just reading your review, and was SHOCKED with your Fuel Consumption.. I drive a Chrysler grand voyager 3.3L V6 Auto (petrol) My FUEL consumption which is 20/21 rounfd town is quite hard for My car.. Why is your's SO bad on a 2.3?? and why do people continue to slate these US cars.. they are amazing... maybe you need to get that checked out or maybe you have a faulty fuel meter???

2002 Ford Galaxy Ghia 2.8 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

The car keeps mis-firing and stalling.

General Comments:

The VR6 engine in this car is supremely quick.

However the Ford dealership seem unable to cure the ignition fault the car seems to have.

2002 Ford Galaxy Ghia 2.3 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Excellent value for money as import

Faults:

CD auto-changer sometimes does not find disks - have to eject the disk package and reinsert.

General Comments:

We got lots of extras by buying as an import (extras made it same price as UK sourced base ghia model). The leather seats offer excellent support and are easier to clean than cloth. The steering wheel switches for radio / cruise control are very useful. The integration of the Sat Nav into the drivers central display works well. Wouldn't buy another car without Xenon headlights.

No real problems with the car at all. Performance is good and mileage is about 25 mpg on average. Garage service (just one annual service) has been OK so far.

Difficult to park so the parking sensors are a real god send.

2002 Ford Galaxy Ghia 1.9 TDI from UK and Ireland

Summary:

I'm delighted with this car.

Faults:

Seat back release knob, broke off on one of rear seats.Very minor fault.

General Comments:

Very impressed indeed after first 4000 miles.

POSITIVE

Engine and 6 Speed Gearbox are excellent and allows for precise control over speed and torque. Acceleration is good even with 7 passengers.

Space, passenger access, gadgets, Audio system, and layout all very good.

NOT SO POSITIVE.

The crushed Velour seats attract dirt like a magnet.

Heating controls (small radio type push-button) are annoying to use and the LCD showing the temperature and fan speed is not the easiest to see when driving.

Even with a heated front windscreen it takes a while to de-mist and often mists up when driving.

Thanks. I was just about to buy a low-price used bargain for use here in Portugal, where there are lots of hills and valleys, switching from sun to mist to rain within a few miles. I wanted above anything the 'automatic air conditioning' and 'Quickclear' front windscreen. After reading your review, I guess that the car would not be suitable for us, after all.
