1991 Ford Granada Scorpio from UK and Ireland - Comments

"Unbelievable bargain"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Auto gearbox oil seal leak.

Front suspension bushes breaking up.

General comments?

A truly fantastic motorway cruiser with superb V6 power. The aircon in the 2.9 is much more capable than in the smaller engined cars and by 1991 Ford had got to grips with most (but not quite all) of the problems. Petrol is on the heavy side but the reliability and ridiculous cheapness of spares (compared to BMW, Merc. or Jag) helps the matter of running costs considerably.

If you want a cheap, mega milemuncher and you want 21st century luxury along with it, this is the car!

I have one of these and it is great, much as described above... and yes... my local Ford garage turns out to be expensive, incompetent and unscrupulous.

I recently had a G reg 2.9i V6 H/back model and it served me well for over 36,000 miles in less than a year! Same leaks to PAS and other fluids with the expected rear left w/arch rust but it was the fastest, safest and steadiest cruiser I had.. 5 star.

I have just bought the Granada 24v and taken down the motorway and come across a 530 BMW he looked across and smirked the floored it. Not for long though I went past him doing 155 miles an hour no other car for under a grand can do that to a new power car. The only problems found up to know are the anti roll bar bushes. They cost a staggering £2.50 from the local Halfords where four of their staff came out just to sea the engine need I say more.Peter.

Superb and excellent that comment about the 24v version by the way I guess it's a 2.9 v6 of which I find a lot of tem have noisy engines now very tappity don't you agree, but and a big, but theres people like ourselves who put our minds and thoughts into doing up these cars like I did mine a 1992 granada ghia 2.0i and its one of the smartest on the road and I've had a few mech jobs done and want to get the clutch done cos it shudders occasionally esp cold.

Oh and don't go and buy new or complete window rocker switches that ford charge £17 each for them.

If your careful you can prise the molding apart and expose a little bulb.

If you go to maplins electroics you can buy single bulbs or go mad and buy a few, in fact when you get the hang of it youll want do the rest and like me I have every swich light up.

Just a tip for you also I have discovered that there is area on the side of the front bumper were you can mount parking lights, like volvos.

I don't know what country gets them, i went to fords today and didn't see any lights on the graph not even usa/canada

perhaps you may be able to tell me.

Anyway safe driving one of the most beutifulest design of cars on the road and motorway munchers they are indeed.

Had my granada scorpio ultima now for 2+ years 1997 2L 24 valve everything you could ever want from any car, but the automatic gearbox problems still there failing to drop into top gear when cruising down the motorway and a bad habit of getting stuck at about 60 mph when wanting to go.
