1984 Ford LTD FD 4.1 electronic fuel injection from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Exellent car, good for long distance driving

Faults:

The car came with a brand new cylinder head on it and required the fuel injection system and inlet manifold to be assembled and refitted to the motor.

I have assembled the fuel injection system and inlet manifold and has been refitted to the motor, but it does not get driven very far. It is being stored in the garage because I have a newer car that I use as the LTD drinks a lot of fuel, it gets started each week and is run for five minutes.

The only problems that I've had are:

Fuel injection system had problems, taken to mechanic and told that it's a common fault. The fault has been fixed, leaking vacuum hose from rocker cover to inlet manifold.

Sunroof leaking when raining, now fixed.

Rust in boot and quarter panels, repaired.

I would buy another car from this manufacturer, but the next car will be another LTD or a fairlane, but a later model.

General Comments:

The car is very comfortable.

However it drinks a lot of fuel.

Fuel injection system not the best and not very reliable.

Look nice when lowered.

Light power steering.

Large amouut of leg room in the back.

However is is common for this model to get rust in the boot and quarter panels.

1984 Ford LTD Mid-Size 232 V6 from North America

Summary:

A very nice car in its day!!!

Faults:

Power Steering Pump bearings are bad.

Needs an Idle Air Control Valve.

Brake system was not cared for!

Engine has recently begun to buck and misfire when warm; unfortunately, it has been equipped with one of Ford's many defective TFI modules.

General Comments:

Despite it's recent flaws this car has always been reliable in all weather.

A very nice car for its price and it will run forever if maintained properly.

1984 Ford LTD Brougham 3.8 V6 from Venezuela

Summary:

Great car

Faults:

The car has been excellent and reliable, my only complain is with the air conditioner evaporator; In 18 years I have put 4 new ones, which means that each one lasted only less that 5 years.

General Comments:

I just love this car, I bought it new in March 28, 1984 and has been running like a champ ever since.

The interior is very roomy for its size, and the seats are very comfortable. I drive the car mostly on freeways, and for the most part on long trips, 9 to 12 hours; and when I reach my destination, I'm as fresh as when I started the trip.

The overall performance is very good for a car this size with a 3.8 liters V6, it has a good response for passing other car on the road, and going up hill it shows good power.

My car came equipped with heavy duty suspension, front and rear sway bars, and 11 inches disk brakes up front, so it shows a very good handling and breaking power. On fast tight corners, it shows some body roll, but this is not worst that in any of the other American sedans that I have driven.

The car is now 18 years old, and the body shows no signs of rust or deterioration, it is still tight and very quiet.

In summary, this one of the best cars that I ever had; I will be happier with a 5.0 litter (302 C.I.) V8, but overall this a great car; on a scale of 1 to 10, I give it a 9.

I had a 84 LTD as well. It was a family car which was passed over to me when I started College. It was my first car. Unfortunitly I got into an accident and it was totaled. It was the fault of the other person mind you. Anyways, I've had since then a 91 Ford Tempo which I had for 10 years.. I loved it... and now I have a Nissian 2001 Sentra. But I still and always will love my first car, the 84 LTD. I miss it.
