1983 Ford Meteor Ghia 1.5 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Great car, never lets me down

Faults:

Coil went on first day of receiving the car.

Oil pump went at 160000.

Driver's seat starting to lose spring due to extensive driving.

General Comments:

Excellent car, going to be sad when she goes.

Hoping to keep her for good and restore her back to original condition. No rust, 2nd owner, a few trolley scratches and polish marks where the paint is thinning.

Handles excellently, great for cornering at high speeds, a little trouble up hills, but great on the road. I get an average fuel consumption of 9lt per 100km on straight highway driving, and about 10-10.5lt per 100km city driving.

It might be small, but she still goes.

1983 Ford Meteor GB 1.5 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

A performing sleeper

Faults:

General aging of parts, Eg. Brake lines, windscreen wipers, bushes, general rust - nothing much.

Have been through 5 front engine mounts.

General Comments:

I love this car. It is my project car and ever since I took it for a strap through Brisbane, it has proven to be a very reliable and performing car. I have put it through a lot of hard driving and it pulled through without complaining.

As a stock standard car, it pulled high 18s on the quarter mile. I have fitted 360 Deg. Dual air filters on the twin carb engine, and installed Genie extractors, straight-through muffler with a 2 inch system. Now it pulls low 17s on the quarter.

Note this car looks stock as the exhaust has a black tip and looks stock as well. I have yet to play with the cams, porting, valve seats (To switch to premium petrol), wheels and suspension, and carb jetting.

1983 Ford Meteor Ghia 1.5 litre from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

A great little car!

Faults:

The radiator pipe burst.

Seats have sunken.

General Comments:

This car has been going very good since I got it, and believe me I push it to its limits.

Even though its front wheel drive and I can't pop many burnouts in it, it can still do some pretty neat stuff.

I really need to get new seats though as they are extremly sunken and are very low.

I would recommend a meteor to anyone, especially as a first car.

I've just bought an 83-85 Meteor Ghia for $1900, haven't picked it up yet as it is currently being worked on (Exhaust Bracket being welded, new windscreen, new clutch, and new handbrake shoe) he's doing all this and getting a roadworthy on it before I pick it up next week, have I got a good deal? the car is known inside and out as this guy is our mechanic and has been servicing the car all its life, and knows it's been looked after... also, is there anything cheap I can do to the little beast to make performance that bit better? and how much do you think a rear door would be worth down at the wreckers? keep it real :) Dave.
