1994 Ford Mondeo Si 2.5 V6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Long lasting, decent performing cars, but they do like to drink

Faults:

Traction control unit stuck just after I bought it. Easily fixed in the end.

Battery exploded when alternator decided to put too much charge into it.

Everything else has been normal wear.

General Comments:

Lovely car if you have distances to cover - mine currently has 163000 miles on the clock and is still an excellent A road / motorway car.

The dealers however, are appalling. When the traction control unit went they quoted £650 plus VAT for a new one, stating it wasn't fixable as it's a sealed unit. One trip and £25 to my friendly local mechanic (who said "its only a glorified wiper motor") sorted the problem out completely.

1994 Ford Mondeo LX Estate 1.6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

I won't buy another one

Faults:

After driving for anything over 5 minutes I am getting some nasty static shocks if I touch any of the car bodywork.

Front shock absorbers started leaking.

Tracking for ever going out - and car is not "kerbed"

Blows headlight bulbs on average once a month!!

Seats not very supportive.

General Comments:

Overall performance not bad for a 1600cc car, but noisy at 60mph plus.

Nothing special for road-holding, my previous car (Vectra) in spite of all the bad publicity was far superior.

Estate not that well designed at back, roof tends to dip (curve) quite a lot at tailgate and hence can make some things (like prams!) difficult to get in.

The plastic finish in the cabin looks rather cheap and nasty after average wear.

1994 Ford Mondeo Aspen 1.6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A low cost cruiser

Faults:

Starter motor solenoid.

General Comments:

I bought the car while at university as I was often visiting my girlfriend and it was a long motorway drive, and it seemed a roomy and comfortable car.

Performance wasn't sparkling by any means, but it got the job done and averaged about 35/40 MPG.

Recently, until I sold it, I was doing about 500 miles per week and it never let me down although it started to use a lot of oil.

1994 Ford Mondeo CLX 1.6 petrol from Romania

Summary:

A very good choice

Faults:

The suspension on the rear wheels broke down at 156000 km.

My Mondeo has a very delicate problem: when I first start the engine it keeps stopping after about 2-3 minutes. After 2-3 minutes the car works like a charm. This problem I haven't solved yet because I haven't discovered the cause.

General Comments:

It is a very comfortable car.

It is no sports car, but it handles very well, and the fuel consumption is quite low.

The car, after 7 years, has no rust and looks brand new.

1994 Ford Mondeo LX 1.8 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

This is a great car from a great manufacturer

Faults:

Driver's side light blew, it was easy to fix.

Alarm does not arm from the driver's side - £17.00 for a new switch.

Slightly noisy cams.

Fuel filler cap sticks sometimes, apart from that nothing else is wrong with this car.

General Comments:

This car has covered some serious mileage and the faults are because of heavy usage, as with every car you get wear and tear.

The two previous cars were Fords and all of them were very very reliable. It is quick, handles very well, and has the power there if you need it. I will be buying a Ford in the future.

The seats are comfy, but bucket seats would be great as standard.

1994 Ford Mondeo 24V V6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Never before could you get so much for so little

Faults:

Front wheel tracking seems to lose alignment after 1 month or 1000 miles.

High rate of wear on the discs, both front and back.

Dealership servicing hopeless and expensive.

General Comments:

A good comfortable ride and and can be fun to drive fast!

1994 Ford Mondeo LX 1.8 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Good hold-all for the family and a comfy motorway cruiser

Faults:

Rattle from the rear hatch.

The alarm started going off by itself once a week at first and now every couple of days. Twice today <g>.

Motorway driving: Every 4-500 miles there's a momentary blip as though a single beat has been missed. The fault's been with the car since new apparently and the previous owner made many unsuccessful attempts to get it fixed.

General Comments:

Generally a good motorway car and an acceptably good town car.

The auto performance is nippy enough for me and it just bowls along at 80-85mph.

For bad or good, it's a rep's car. Penholders in all the right places. Storage right to hand for coins etc.

The alarm on mine used to do that too.

Drove me nuts.
