Hello, I bought a 2001 ranger XLT used with 42,000 miles. I have not yet had any problems.Although, When compared to my 1993 ranger that also has the 4.0 liter with 210.000 miles. This 2001 has much less power and as you said fuel mileage is excessivly bad. When cold weather hit, I went from 19+ miles per gallon to 14. Not acceptable!!

I own a 2001 ford ranger 4x4 XLT. I bought it used with 37,000 miles and now has 75,000 miles on it. I had it in the shop the very next day I bought it with transmission problems. They said nothing was wrong with it, its just four wheel drive. It jumps when I take off, when it shifts gears, and stops. I don't know how many times I have had it in the shop now for that problem. Also, at 50,000 I had it in the shop for my timing chain. The noise and vibration the truck puts off is ridiculous. Now, I have it in the shop for my accelerator sticking. When I let off the gas, it is still going, it doesn't slow down, then it takes forever to stop... if it finally does stop, my tires are still spinning, like I'm power breaking it. I have had this in the shop I don't know how many times now, and no one knows exactly whats wrong with it. I don't drive it hard, just to and from work. I like ford, but I wouldn't own another ranger.

Auto trannys need maintenance, you guys do know that?

And I see this weird, thing in all your comments. You bought USED. The previous owner must of flogged it and not maintained it. Or well, maybe it was a lemon, every company has them and customers only get crabby when they get one.
