Faults:

Starter Motor seized one week after I had bought the car. Changed the alternator because the battery light stayed on all the time, but then was told that it was an electrical fault. When it rains water leaks into the electrics and sets the car alarm off at 4am (really annoying), a pipe had burst so the engine kept over heating.

General Comments:

This car is a good luxurious, motorway cruiser, but it drinks too much petrol, its very comfortable too. Good buy if you have full service history and previous owner had kept it well.

Faults:

Front brake discs warped at 90,000m.

Catalytic Converter failed MOT at 100,000m.

Battery failed at 109,000m. Due to draining to earth by a dodgy bit of after-market wiring!

Buttons on trip computer not functioning correctly (niggly, not serious).

Front windscreen's 'Quickclear' system only clears about 50% of screen - some heating elements not working. (Been like that since I had it)

General Comments:

Car has been incredibly reliable and has only ever let me down due to the battery being drained as mentioned.

The car starts first time, all the time. OK, apart from when I'm a dork and flood the engine and then have to call the RAC and look very stupid!

OK, no-one really likes the exterior (especially the font end), but the car is very comfortable and pleasant to drive. It handles well for a car of its size (and, let's face it, manufacturer). It is, however, unsettled by bumps on bends.

Performance isn't top-notch. I guess a 2 litre engine isn't really enough to pull the car's weight. It will accelerate briskly enough to overtake without major dramas.

Faults:

Radiator replaced at 70,000 miles.

Steering rack replaced at 75,000 miles.

Reconditioned gearbox at 101,000 miles.

Fuse box reconditioned 102,000 miles.

Many more niggling faults.

General Comments:

Still in great condition, costing quite a sum of money at the moment, petrol consumption 15 mpg, 16 to 18 mpg before reconditioned gearbox, faults coming very frequently at the moment, still nice to drive every comfort anyone needs, cost me approx £2,000 in the 5yrs on repairs a lot more than that on petrol, used every day all day, I am retired now, but it is still used as a family TAXI, with myself driving everyone around, cannot afford to exchange it, part of the family.

Faults:

A cheap joint on the cooling system broke, which is made of "environment-friendly" material, caused a sudden loss on the coolant and an engine rebuilt. What a damage to the environment and my pocket!

Auto-box started to shift weirdly 3 months after I got it.

The enging power is insufficient (easy to knock) during hot days.

Some other wears is acceptable.

General Comments:

This car will run happily in a cooler country, flatter highways.

In hot days, stop and go traffics, up-hills, it will suffer.

For those who have the luck to own a Scorpio as me, the first thing I'll recommend is to install a big ATF cooler, this quite improves the behavior and lifespan of the auto-box.

While the Scorpio cruises on the highway, it is so stable and quiet, easy to exceed the speed limit unawares. Hey! It is a Germany car anyway.

When driving along the winding road in the mountain, its FR character and stable suspension provide great fun of driving.

If not for the weak auto-box, I'll be happy with the Scorpio.
