"Terrible, awful, horrible car"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Everything (except the engine) has broken at least once in the four years I've owned the car. For me to list all the troubles would take all day. Problems include the transmission (three) the turbo, brakes (unreliable) heater cores, sunroof, broken seats, rearend, frontend, you name it.

General comments?

This is an awful, awful car. It's fun to drive, but is as unreliable as a Pinto (being nice to Pintos). I would never buy another of these terrible cars. It sure is nice to look at though.

Sorry to hear that. I've had mine since March of 2002, when it had 218000km on it. I've put plenty of miles on it since then, and the only thing I've had to replace was the heater core, battery, and alternator. All maintenance items. I guess you just got yourself a lemon. I know quite a few guys who own and drive these cars, and they don't have hardly any troubles. Someone probably flogged the hell out of it before you got it. I'm getting ready to replace the fuel pump, but that is still a maintenance item.

I have also had my 1987 Turbo Coupe since March of 2003 and it has been nothing, but the most dependable car yet. Maintaining the car is expected, but as far as being reliable it has been there all the way. They are great everyday drivers. I am sorry to hear that you have had so many problems with yours. Don't let that ruin it for the rest of us.

I have had my TC since April 87. It is without a doubt the finest vehicle I have ever owned. My 70 Mach 1 was a close second. Other than routine maintenance, and an charging problem from a defective alternator when it was new, it has cost me nothing. Mine is stored very winter and has only 110,000 ks, but it still looks like the day it came out of the box. I only wish everyone could have the joy of launching one of these machines. Fast, stable and ultra reliable is the only way to describe this wonderful car.

I've owned my 87 Turbo Coupe since it was new. It is, without a doubt, the finest automobile I've ever had the pleasure to own and drive. In 17 years, I've had repairs, but who hasn't? I like this car so much that I'm now in the process of restoration and customization of the vehicle rather than spending big bucks on a new car.

Even with the minor problems I've had, I'd buy this car again in a heartbeat. Just like anything else, though, if they're not properly maintained, they will fall apart. Maintenance is the key.

The best place for info on the cars is the North American Turbocoupe Organization - www.turbocoupe.org.

Cheers!

Sounds like you got a bad one, I've never heard of one with that many problems.

I own the same car and completely agree. It's terrible. The most unreliable thing in the world. We have to fix it every other day it seems and there's always something wrong with it.

I find it very hard to believe that you have had any trouble with the Turbo Coupe, as they will go forever if they are not abused (I've even seen people abuse them and they are still flawless). Believe me, Japanese cars have a lot of problems, (I've owned 4 Z cars from Nissan.) Much much more than any Ford.

If you owned a Turbo Coupe, you will never buy another foreign car again as Ford is the best American made car maker today!!
