1992 Ford Transit 80 bhp diesel from Netherlands

Summary:

Very reliable, comfortable, noisy and uninteresting car

Faults:

Driver seat is worn.

Steering house has worn out gears.

Exhaust rusted off.

Starter engine got a burned coil.

Battery-mounts rusted away.

Distribution Belt broke. Replaced it, reset the valves, no further damage to the engine! This happened because the previous owner had not replaced the belt as promised. The belt broke after 110.000 km's of use.

At 380.000 km's, water temperature sensor broke.

Cap of the fuse-box has come off when opening.

Sometimes the indicator-lights-fuse blows without good reason.

Back door hinges have too much play.

Driver side doorknob has broken 2 times.

Chart-holders in both doors have come off.

General Comments:

0 to 100 km/h in 33 seconds.

100 to 120 km/h in 20 seconds.

120 to 130 km/h in 60 seconds.

Handles like a... elephant? You really have to tug the wheel to guide it, and even then it might go off in a completely unwanted direction.

Noisy on the highway.

Very high seat position, with my 1.96 I can sit comfortably.

Very long shift distances.

1992 Ford Transit EDL 2.5 diesel from Serbia

Faults:

Very little things went wrong. First the two speeds of the ventilator do not work properly, backward lights, ABS computer often needs reseting while the engine is still cold during winter.

I had to change rubber around the front window because it was leaking when it rains.

General Comments:

Powerful diesel engine, and huge mass of this car gives you a feeling of safety on the road. It won't leave you on the road, and it consumes about 8 litres of diesel on the open road, and about 11 in the city drive. That's good.

It handles bad on slippery roads when its cargo space is empty, almost as bad as BMW.
