1995 Ford Transit 100 2.5 diesel from Finland

Summary:

Like a tank

Faults:

I change the brake discs, and all other brake parts for the front and rear brakes.

Driver's seat is in bad shape.

Not so good to drive in Finnish winter for rear axle drive, but so nice...

General Comments:

It likes diesel, especially if you like to drive over 80km/h.

On highway at 80kmh it runs quite okay.

1995 Ford Transit T80 2.5 diesel from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Front discs.

Diesel injector, simply cracked, spraying the engine; what a mess!

Heater fan control switch melted.

Keys wear out too quickly, leaving you locked out!

Ignition key barrel disintegrated, leaving me stranded in the country.

Alternator was all done at 140,000; refurb, sorted!

General Comments:

I could drive the Transit for mile after mile and it never misses a beat, however when it does decide to break down, then it can cause major problems. I run it on new cooking oil and it gives good economy.

Very slow, but the engine is pretty much bullet proof, and keeps going no matter how much punishment it's given.

1995 Ford Transit 2.5 turbo diesel from Finland

Summary:

The car is a mistake

Faults:

Gearbox broke down at 170000 km.

Problems with door locks.

Lots of rust.

Other minor faults.

General Comments:

The car is terrible to drive, it is very noisy and uncomfortable.

Fuel consumption is quite high, more than 10 liters/100km on highway.

The car is difficult to drive on icy and snowy roads.

I hate this car, VW Transporter is much better.

Considering you did 241000km with it, I'd say not that many things have gone wrong...

VW Transporter is much better, and much much more expensive in the 2nd hand market!

1995 Ford Transit 2.5 TD from Norway

Summary:

Nice car, but with built in faults that realy should have been payed for by Ford

Faults:

Front wheel bearings.

Clutch gluing -> Gearbox sync wear.

Exhaust sensor malfunction -> low power.

AC ALU + steel -> AC leakage.

Blue exhaust at start at 150,000Km.

Driver seat no good at 50,000Km.

General Comments:

Nice car, but : There was several faults designed in by Ford. Thus the real cost of the car was at 10% to 20% more. These were : inner front hub bear exposed to water giving bearing damage (Construction changed). Exhaust sensor failing after 50,000Km (Standard problem). The clutch does not release below 18 degrees C, possibly to litle clearance on plines. Resulting in having to use force to engage 1. and 2. gear. Resulting on gear box overhaul!. AC ALU tubes mounted by steel clamps! and routed close to steel, gives leaking tubes, and almost whole AC must be exchanged, including AC-radiator. All of these cause by poor construction! Adding about 10% to 20% to the initial cost of the car. The driver seat is the worst I've ever had. But probably fits a short guy with a crooked back ;-). The one they had in the 1986 was fine.
