1996 Ford Transit 2.5 SWB turbo diesel from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Most unreliable vehicle I have ever owned

Faults:

Breaks down once every 2 months.

Center bearing $450.

Transmission oil gasket $350.

Solenoid $600.

Steering belt went on it after Ford had over-adjusted it, after fitting a new cam belt for $450.

I have only done 20,000 klms - Ford says the harmonic balancer part, only $350, and the fuel pump, reconditioned $3000 part only, need replacing.

General Comments:

Very unreliable, in fact the most unreliable vehicle I have ever owned. Had a Ford Transit 91 in Germany, drove 50,000 klms, and it didn't break down once.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

I can confirm the center bearing (oil leaking out below front of gear box), and the Solenoid (reduced engine power).

I also had some others (See my review for 1995 if accepted).

I have a 1996 ford transit 120, with 249,000 Ks, and I had to change the water pump, alternator, bearing on front wheel and light switch all after the 200,000 ks mark. Other than that, just oil, filters and the usual.

Of course it really needs new shocks, and perhaps a new clutch soon.
