2001 Ford Transit 260 FWD L1H2 2.0 TD from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Slow, noisy, but very versatile traditional van

Faults:

Well rust, rust and more rust, but it is well over 20 years old now. The rust will be repaired as I am thinking about converting it to a motor home.

Inside is actually OK for age and miles, I always took care of it and had seats covers. Rear load area was also wood-lined from new.

The mechanical wear expected of age have been replaced. Turbo failed along with the clutch, probably the most expensive items. But it is on 165K now.

General Comments:

The Transit is still a common sight on UK roads and it is easy to see why - they make a great van for just about every use. This one originally started life as a works van, but later I bought it from my employer.

This is a SWB (short wheel base) single cab version, probably the most common sized van. Easily lots of space and best in its class. Nice interior but it is a bit grey and plastic.

The van is actually OK to drive, noise aside. That diesel clatter is not too bad at lower speeds, but on motorways the drone can get a bit tiring after long drives.

2.0 turbo diesel pull enough weight, but is not very fast. Can manage more than 35 mpg even when loaded, OK for its size and weight.

Just can't wait to get to work on it converting it into something much nicer! My van is dark blue, much better than the usual white color, which 90% of them are!

2001 Ford Transit 300L 2.0L turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A good load lugger for trade use

Faults:

Absolutely nothing has gone wrong so far.

General Comments:

I find this model Transit more comfortable, quieter and easier to drive than any previous Transits. My only slight gripe is mine has the 76ps engine and would have been better with the next one up. As a trade van, it's always running with a full load of tools and equipment in the back, so the extra power would be nice. Having said that, the 75ps engine keeps up with traffic OK and returns 29 - 35mpg, depending on circumstances.
