"Lots of practicality -take a chance!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The ABS light is on constantly now for 4 years. I have been told it is a worn out sensor ring that is expensive -you have to take the axle out to replace it. I like to think it means the "After Burner System" is activated.

Replaced the steering rack soon after I bought it when it started to leak fluid.

I too noticed a clunk when starting from a stopped position. My mechanic knew exactly what it was a worn suspension part. He just added some weld in on the part and fixed the problem.

The door ajar switch goes on and off as a result of various worn out door and hatch sensors. I live with it, but it is annoying.

The speedometer needle fluctuates wildly, I live with that too.

Transmission was sticking, but I added a bottle of Lucas transmission additive and believe it or not it corrected the problem.

The worst thing to happen was one of the front suspension springs broke. There was no recall at the time and I had to replace the springs. A recall was later added to put in spring guards.

General comments?

I really like the style of the van, both the interior and exterior.

Mechanically it has not been the best vehicle -but then again it has not been a nightmare either.

After 266,000 kilometers the van is still going strong. The interior is holding up very well. A lot of practicality in this vehicle. I will miss it when it finally gives it up.

A quick update, I still have the van and I'm at 345,000 kilometers on the original engine -without a rebuild! I change the oil every 3 months and last tune up was at 150,000 kilometers. I have added about 4 bottles of Lucas transmission additive (drain a pint out with a tube trough the dipstick tube) to help the clunky transmission which is original too! Since my review I have had only one problem with the alternator wearing out which is just regular maintenance. I am looking at buying another newer Windstar!
