The air conditioners main gasket broke at about 60,000 miles. Fortunatley the cost of fixing it was minimal, only $35.00.
The convertible top had to be replaced at 50,000 miles, it was kept well, but normal wear and tear had gotten to it. It wasn't much, about $150.00, from an on-ddline retailer.
This car is a good little car, its convenient and realiable. Not so comfortable for long distances, but for short trips, it is perfect.
Other owners for the same make model and year have said that the automatics are fairly good on gas and yet others agree with you. Why would you say that it is so bad on gas? Do you leave the 4WD hubs locked in? Do you leave it in 4WD all the time? I am getting one primarily because I believed that it would be better on gas than my 1990 Chrysler New Yorker. I hope I am making a good decision.
You won't regret it. All the a/c compressors have gone bad eventually buy a convertible you won't need it.
The gas mileage that I get is between 22 and 25 mpg. I have the '95 1.6-16V automatic. You really have to haul a__ to get below that. I think I had one tank that got only 21 mpg, but that was due to an off-road-trip and a week of squeaking tires through the city :D :D.
My '96 4wd 4door tracker used to get 30 mpg. It now has 80,000 miles on it and gets 23 mpg. I've replaced everything at regularly scheduled intervals. The gas mileage has went from 300 miles per tank to 275 to 250. Just checked egr and egr pipe. Both are clean. O2 sensors are OK and air filter always gets replaced. Converter is fine too. Not as spunky as it used to be either. Any suggestions?

I get 30 to 31 mpg in my 95 and it has 179,000 miles on it.
Although I didn't see any mention of bad gas mileage in the original post, I will say that my 97 Sidekick and my 95 Tracker both routinely get over 30 mpg on the highway. Both have 5-speed manual transmissions. The Tracker has AC which will cause mileage to drop somewhat when in use, but I normally ride with the side and back windows down anyway, so I don't use the AC unless it is torture outside.
October12,2007 My son recently bought a 95 Tracker 4cyl.automatic only 61000 miles on it it only gets 22-24 miles per gal. I have put a new O2 sensor on it with no improvement. I checked spark plugs they look good. Put new gas filter still no improvement. The car runs well does anyone have advice.
It is a two wheel drive.
I am an original owner of a 1995 Geo Tracker, I love this SUV. I have the convertible 4wd, LSI. When I first purchased it the sticker said it was 18 miles city and 22 miles hgwy. I have taken good care of it over the years and it has always ran well, as if it were brand new.
However the top has seen better days, and I am having trouble finding a replacement. I have see them, but the reviews I have read on them were not favorable (not being able to fit back window was one). My back window has split in half and is being held together with Duct tape. Doesn't look nice, the paint is a little run down some scratches, supermarket carts scraping it etc. Where can I find a top that will fit properly, Chevy doesn't stock them anymore, of course they have been discontinued. Any suggestions?
