1983 GMC Jimmy Full Size 4x4 5.0L (305ci) V8 from North America

Summary:

A great off-road beast

Faults:

The transmission blew at about 200,000km.

The right front hub exploded while driving down the road.

There are tears in the front buckets.

The dashboard is cracked from the cold weather.

The heater doesn't work.

It burns oil.

There is a slight knock coming from the engine.

The U-joints seem to go more often than normal.

The fuel guage didn't work when I bought it.

There are minor carburetor troubles.

General Comments:

This is a great truck for anyone who enjoys camping, hunting, fishing, or just bombing around the back-country in 4-wheel drive. Throw on a set of 31' mud terrain tires on a stock Jimmy and you have a pretty capable off-road machine.

The interior is very comfortable and provides tons of cargo capacity.

The removable top is a nice treat in the summer. (The girls love it too)

Avoid purchasing a Jimmy that has a 305 engine though. This engine, although I have found it to be very reliable, has almost no power and uses a brutal amount of fuel.

All in all, this was a fun to drive truck that I really regret selling. I encourage anyone who is in the market for an older, inexpensive, full-size SUV to purchase a Jimmy.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
