2003 GMC Sierra SLT turbo diesel from North America

Summary:

I expected better quality from GMC!

Faults:

GM has a real problem with their transfer cases. My Sierra 4x4 2500HD Turbo diesel w/Allison transmission is on its third transfer case, and its drive train warranty ran out at 100,000 miles. I am told that the pump inside came loose. I don't know, but it will cost you over $2500 for a replacement to be installed.

Several of the dealer mechanics have told me that they have seen several of these transfer cases go bad. Sounds like GMC should step up to the plate and admit that their transfer cases have a problem. They extended the injector warranty to 200,000 miles because of problems.

General Comments:

My GMC Sierra 4x4 Crew cab, SLT, Diesel w/Allison is an awesome truck when it's running!

2003 GMC Sierra SL RCSWB 327 from North America

Summary:

I like it better than the fords I have owned

Faults:

Just got a letter in the mail saying GM would extend my warranty on the interior until 2010 due to a few malfunctions in the dash and gauges. They will repair it for free, but I have not had any problem with my gauges as of yet. I wish the seat was more comfy. Nothing mechanical has gone wrong with the truck.

General Comments:

I love the truck and the options it came with, it is the SL model, but came with the 327/345hp due to minor upgrades I increased horepower easily. It has power door locks, but does not have power windows... I like that option because I have had trucks in the past where the power windows quit working. It has the chrome grille and came from the factory with aluminum alloys NOT the heavy steel rims. It has a seat I have not seen in other trucks... the center console does not fold down and the seat it not cloth or vinyl it is more like "tweed" fabric... it seems tougher than the cloth or vinyl because it has not torn or ripped. The truck did not come with a towing package, but it has the "smooth ride" option, but has the optional transmission cooler..."ODD". I like the truck it's sporty and by far the fastest truck I have ever owned. I have owned Ford trucks in the past and the engines in these GM trucks are much better, more power, more torque, Great engines.

2003 GMC Sierra SLE 5.3 from North America

Summary:

Descent truck if they could solve drive line problems

Faults:

Steering wheel controls wear off.

Seat belts squeak.

Paint peeled off front bumper.

Driver seat cushion wore irregularly had to be replaced.

Rear end knocks when shifting gears.

4wd light has came on several times.

52000 miles transfer case exploded and transmission also.

General Comments:

It seems to be a pretty good truck. Although not much power in the towing department. Cab needs to be updated. If you are running it empty, it will run like a race car until the transmission explodes.

2003 GMC Sierra 4.8L from North America

Summary:

Wish I had never purchased it

Faults:

I bought this truck new and have had it less than 3 years, but I'm heading to the dealer for the 4th time. I had a cracked transmission case, a bad mid-shaft, bad tailgate cables and now the passenger seat belt won't work. Will look to buy a Nissan or Toyota next time.

General Comments:

I have babied this truck thinking it would last me a long time. It has been garage kept since day one, but it's one thing after another and me spending time at the dealer.

2003 GMC Sierra 5.3L from North America

Summary:

Quadrasteer and GMC quality make this the best truck ever!

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

Second the motion about dropping Quadrasteer in 2006. I'm in the market for a new vehicle just to keep the miles off of this one. Will try to hang on to this one! There is simply no better innovation in pickups in decades, it's a real shame they're dropping it.

I've had no problems at all, GMC is the best built truck (of course, you pay for that). Rides great, no road noise, best truck I've ever owned (probably about my 10th one).
