1996 GMC Yukon SLE 4x4 5.7 liter from North America

Summary:

This is my dream truck!!!

Faults:

I absolutely love my truck, don't get me wrong. I have put a new transmission in it. It went out while I was driving it.

I put new oxygen censors and a mass air flow censor on it. The air conditioning is leaking.

Gaskets on rear of truck. It is in shop as we speak, for the blinker switch. smoke came from the steering column, and now starter won't cut off.

General Comments:

This truck is Very responsive, and it turns on a dime. Very fast pick up.

1996 GMC Yukon SLT 5.7 from North America

Summary:

Be prepared to pay for comfort and performance with lots of maintenance

Faults:

Replaced the Torque Converter control valve at 112,000KM. The dealer told me it was ok to tow a 2000LB boat at speed on the highway, after the check engine light came on. Nearly ended up with needing a complete new transmission, NEVER TOW IN OD, NEVER.

Water pump the latest item to be replaced, before that it was the intake manifold.

General Comments:

The vehicles performance is excellent as far as power and acceleration and towing capability with a full load of passengers and gear.

The brakes are somewhat undersized as it often feels like the rotors will warp under continues heavy braking.

Comfortable with good appointments, but the fit and finish, with the squeaks is a little annoying.

1996 GMC Yukon 5.7 Liter Vortex from North America

Summary:

Great truck that rides like a car

Faults:

Brake master cylinder booster replaced twice.

Front wheel drive electronic switch does not work, so 4WD is inoperative.

Transmission oil cooling lines leaked and had to be replaced.

Air conditioner compressor cracked and needed to be replaced.

Serpentine belt tensioner was defective.

Leather seats are showing some cracking.

Maintenance/replacement: New alternator at 90,000; new brakes at 84,000; new battery every 4 years, new tires at 84,000 (used a five tire rotation - and bought a new wheel for spare tire rotation) ; automatic interior light dimmer switch is defective, have it turned off.

General Comments:

Although the repairs are beginning to get more frequent, I really like this truck. I bought it used at 9,000 and did not have to take the big hit driving away from the dealer. First thing I did was take it to a rust proofing shop and have it undercoated, glazed, rust proofed and detail cleaned. With their Gold package, it gets redone annually -and it has no rust at all - and it still looks like new.

It is a great road car with plenty of room for four adults, five is OK. The 5.7 engine will really jump up and move you along, passing or cruising. Rides along very smoothly.

You wasted your money on the rust proofing. I have the same truck, I am the original owner and it has no rust. Zip, nada.

The only rust protection it has is what it came with from the manufacturer.

I live in Detroit, the winter "road salt" capital of the world.
