1991 Holden Calais VP 5.0L V8 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Awesome power and Reliability, just watch that rubber burn

Faults:

Power steering rack leaked, I let it get too low and stuffed the power steering pump too. Fixed it with new ones from wreckers. rear power windows don't work, I will fix them eventually. tyres keep going bald on the back. I think I have a pretty good idea of what the problem is. ;)

General Comments:

Awesome car, I absolutely love the V8 VN/VP's, reliable heaps of grunt, T700's are good transmissions, firm shifts (chirps second with stock trans and 15 inch wheels) very economical for a V8, more economical than my previous car (EB I6 4.0L falcon). cruise control helps. nothing sounds better than a 5.0L commodore. I don't know what top speed it has because the speedo only goes up to 220km/h. IRS gives decent handling and traction when needed. if you want a cheap, fast and reliable machine you can't beat a V8 VN/VP, they will take abuse all day long.

1991 Holden Calais VP 3.8 petrol from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

A classy, comfortable, reliable, car which has all the power and torque that you need

Faults:

No problems until well over the 100,000 km mark.

Problems included a hole in the exhaust manifold (was replaced).

Leak in the power steering, this had to be repaired twice within a year, the garage insisted that it was a different part that went wrong the second time.

Replaced the brake-disks then six months later they had to be re-surfaced.

General Comments:

I bought this car in 1994 and still have it after 11 years, what more can I say?

I'm ready to sell it now, as I'm about to retire.

In spite of the Problems, I have loved this car, it's got all the power and comfort that one could ask for.

This car has never let me down.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

I agree. Worst problem seems to be with the power steering. After having done 220000kms, the pump is giving me grief. Nice car though.
