1983 Holden Gemini TF straight 6 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

It is the best car ever, and I'm not going to sell it

Faults:

The only thing I can really think of, is the paint started to wear on the roof, the boot and bonnet, but that was really nothing.

General Comments:

When I first got it, I did some modifications to the car, like I put in a 5 speed manual gear with a VN V6, with a high stall convertor and running 4.1 diff gears.

This car is seriously the best car I have ever owned. Even when I didn't modify it, it was good, and even though it is modified, it is still very cheap on petrol.

1983 Holden Gemini SL 1.6L from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Great looker, but no guts

Faults:

A lot of problems with the cooling system. I had to replace the welch plugs, the heater hose, the radiator cap and a radiator hose.

Car has sustained some hail damage before I had ownership.

Small amount of rust.

General Comments:

Rear wheel drive is good.

The car used to an automatic and it got converted to a manual so the dash gauges were also changed. This means the gauges don't read completely accurately.

I am a little tall for the car and it is quite cramped having 5 adults in the car.

Car sounds really fast, but is actually quite slow because it is only a 1.6L.

Interior is in fairly good condition.

1983 Holden Gemini TG 1.6 petrol from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Excellent value for money, great fun

Faults:

Bad rust in the boot and front quarter panels.

Crack in cylinder head which lead too bad overheating.

General Comments:

Quick little 'go anywhere' car - good for mucking around with friends.

Easy steering - even though it hasn't got power steering.

I did a complete motor overhaul - new pistons, re-machined the head. Runs so good now can't fault.

Added Pioneer CD player with 2 6x9 speakers in back.

Got some wicked mags to stick on with big wheels.

1983 Holden Gemini TF 1.6 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Cheap 1st car that you can do so much with

Faults:

Alternator and regulator packed it in.

Thermostat also stopped working.

General Comments:

Gemini's go hard for little car, very reliable, I had the front smashed in good and proper ($2000 worth damage) - new bumper and a few other parts costing about $170 and it runs like the day I got.

Also you can make them go harder and faster with minimal amounts of money.

Watch out for rust in the boot, floorpans and doors. Other than that they're a good car.

How do you fix the rust in the boot?

My gears don't go in too easily, is there something wrong, if so how much roughly is a new 5 speed gear box? It just crunches when you change.

1983 Holden Gemini TG SLX 1.6 from Australia and New Zealand

Faults:

Rust, brakes, rattling noise in the exhaust.

General Comments:

It is a very good reliable car, with guts it could beat any other car in a drag except V8s.
