1995 Honda del Sol VTEC 1.6 DOHC from North America

Summary:

A very sweet two-seater targa top

Faults:

I haven't had any problems with this car. Routine maintenance like oil changes and timing belt have been really been the only costs. The car was lowered 2 inches in rear and 1.5 inches in front by the previous owner (I don't know how he did it, but it sure wore out the Z-rated tires that came with it).

The only other thing that is wrong with this car is that I turned it into a sport import street/show car and now it is useless in the snow. I have to sell it now as I live in a snowy part of Canada where I would have practical use of the car for approximately 5 months or so.

Oh yeah, the only other negative item about this model of car - VTEC Dual-overhead cam is that it will only take premium unleaded gas which is about 0.10 cents more expensive per litre of gasoline in Canada. Yikes. On road trips though, I did get approximately 700 litres per tank on highway (40 litre tank) and that includes adding a lot of high performance goodies to increase horsepower.

General Comments:

I love this car! I cannot spread enough good around about this car and it will be sorely missed.

A joy to fix up with aftermarket goodies.

Fairly reasonably priced for such a rare car in Canada. I kept this one in pristine condition that people would approach me and ask me if this was a new model car that had just come out. They would litterally be in shock when I told them that it was a 1995.

Be aware though that the targa top seals tend to go on the pre-1995 models.

Also the arm rests on the interior parts of the doors which come down on a curve tend to have the glue come undone from the sponge/foam.

The engine is very easy to work on if you are a do-it-yourselfer like me.

There is not a lot of storage behind the two seats, however, the trunk design is really neat - as in - the targa roof stores and locks into the trunk. This allows the owner to have an instant convertible in about 20 seconds - which is really good on those uncertain rainy/sunny days.

1995 Honda del Sol VTEC from North America

Summary:

Fun car, moderate death trap

Faults:

The air conditioning unit died. The car still had a warranty since I bought it used from a dealer, so they took care of it.

General Comments:

The car is very fun with a lot of zip. I got into an accident with it with a Cadillac Escalade. The cage held up very well and the air bags deployed rapidly. I would say it's a safe car for it's size, when you get in an accident with an Escalade, it really makes a difference with thoughtful safety construction from the manufacturer.

1995 Honda del Sol Si 1.6 liter gasoline from North America

Summary:

A reliable, economical, fun open top car

Faults:

A small rock cracked my windshield. I have had no mechanical problems.

General Comments:

In stock form the car under-steers badly. This can be remedied with a rear anti-roll bar.

The engine has a wide power band perfectly suited for the car.

The top works wonderful. It keeps out bad weather 100%. Being metal, it will not be torn like a canvas convertible. It removes and stows very quickly. Once in the trunk, the user is able to lift the roof on a rack for access to the trunk.

The interior is ergonomic and well finished. There are two detriments to the interior. One must sit close in order to push the clutch all the way in, but the accelerator is uncomfortably close in this position. There is a blind spot on the drivers side caused by the sail panel.

1995 Honda del Sol S 1.6 from North America

Summary:

If your looking for a fun, cute, sporty, and fast car, the Honda Del Sol is perfect for you

Faults:

Nothing at all. Well besides it being broken into. But that wasn't my cars fault. That the price you pay when you have a nice car.

General Comments:

I'm 18 years old and this is my first car. I have had no regrets that I chose this car. I absolutely Love my little red Del Sol. It is so much fun and you get so much attention in it.

The seats are so comfortable and there is a lot of room in the cab. I'm 5 "10" and I have plenty of leg room.

It also has a lot of power. My car is only an S model, but is is still really fast and has a lot of pep. I Love it!!!

What are the chances of a 6"6 person fitting in a del sol?
