My engine threw a rod at 76,000 miles. That was 8 months ago and I have barely driven it since.
After getting the engine rebuilt I went through two catalytic converters.
The AC does not work.
The sending unit on the gas gage is broken. (big surprise)
The most troubling problem though is that Randomly as the car is running the right bank of cylinders will shut down and the car will just run on the other three. Then whenever they feel like it the other three will just kick back on. I have had this at two very reputable mechanics who have gone through this thing with a fine tooth comb and do not know what the problem is. I have called around to the local Honda Technicians and no one has ever heard of this before. This car has been sitting in front of my house for over a month now and I have no idea what to do with it.
I wish someone would set this thing on fire.
Which manufacturer would you not buy a vehicle from again- Honda or Isuzu?
Honda might not know what's wrong because this car is made by Isuzu, and re-badged by Honda (big mistake by Honda). Try going to an Isuzu dealer for your engine problem. They may know more since this is "their" car.
Perhaps it's as simple as some spark plugs fouling out. Try having those looked at and if they need replacing, replace them.
The PASSPORT uses a lot of GM parts. As for the three cyls shorting out - I would condemn the ignition module under the three coil packs. I am only assuming that the problem as said by the original person here does KNOW that the three cyl on one bank are indeed shorting out. Now to really KNOW whats going on you need to hook the scanner and SEE if the KV is low or high on those supposedly cyls.
Another point to take is a possible problem with the wire harness that connects the three injectors on that bank. If you had a bad connection... it would affect all three at once. These kind of problems are tough to tackle, but with time and patience you can lick it. Its all a matter of cause and effect and what your actions do to create a particular condition which is verifiable and testable.
For the record, I have heard the the coil pack on the newer 3.6L engines have a problem of going out. My friend has had them replaced twice. She has also had the fuel gauge problem and it's too expensive to get fixed. I believe the older 3 liter engine is not as strong, but more reliable.
If we are still talking about the Honda Passport/Izuzu Rodeo then they never came with a 3.6L. From 97-2002 they were offered with the 3.2L.
I have a 2000 Honda Passport. Has anyone had a problem with the "reduced power" light? When this light comes on the car runs in a 2 cylinder mode. I have taken it to a Honda Dealer and was told it was the "throttle position control sensor". Any one else have such a problem?
Hi my sister owns a 2000 Honda passport and she is having problems with the car staying started. The car never has a hard time starting up its after the fact. Sometimes it stay started at idle and sometimes it don't but will always start back up. When it stays started she jumps in drives off and things are good until she comes to a stop i.e., stop sign or stop light. When travel the highway no problems but when she exits and has to stop it dies out again. I suggested replacing the plugs and changing the oil which she did. Still having the same problems. Any help would be appreciated thanks.
