For all your 3rd Gen (88-91) Prelude needs go to www.PreludePower.com. Beautiful site. I have a Black 89 Si, Haven't driven it yet because I bought it with a blown engine and I'm replacing it. Props to all Luders.
Whats up prelude drivers? I got a 89 4ws and it treats me great. I got 17" rims, eibach lowering suspension. I had to get my lights for the rear custom made. I love my car and I'm going to keep it 4ever. I smoked almost everybody that tried me.
I own a 89 Si with a b21 rebuilt engine, short shifter kit, exhaust, lowered on tokico blues shocks and eibach springs. I love it to death. Regarding your taillights. If you don't like the orange blinker lights, you could consider swapping them with the taillights of the 90-91 preludes. Keep in mind that you will need to get a new trunk piece and bumper in order for the lights to fit though. You're better off keeping the taillights... they're not all that bad, who knows, in a few more years, maybe they will be the cat's meow.
> Preludes are a target out there. Enjoy.
Do what I did for my "daily driver": Buy one with a little rust and some cosmetic dents for a $1000 -- then it looks like just any other crappy beater coupe, and people leave it alone. And, since you saved a pile of dough buying an already "tenderized" car, you can flog the thing like hell, and it won't lose a penny of re-sale value.
After all, a REAL sports car is MEANT to be flogged day-in, day-out, not be a gingerly-driven work of gleaming art clean enough to eat off of. Honda didn't throw a 6750rpm redline under the hood for no reason. Sooner or later, every car is going to get T-boned by a blue-hair who can't see over the dash of her Buick -- so you might as well enjoy the thing while you can.
(I also never lock my doors -- If I ever have to pull my stolen-for-a-joyride car out of police impound lot, I don't want to have to deal with busted glass. NEVER, EVER lock your EFFING DOORS, because glass is the easiest thing in the world to break. Locking your doors doesn't save your property; it only costs you money to replace the windows.)
I bought an 89' Prelude SI 4WS last year. Every things stock, but I am thinking of getting a pod filter (as soon as I figure out where the stock air filter is). I thought it ran OK, until I found out how to engage the "S4" mode. I was pleasantly surprised.

It's nice to see that people love their 3rd Gen prelude's as much as I do. I have the 2.0 si. My car is actually 2 89's put together. Both needed something the other had, so after 1350$ later I had my own Prelude. I think the body, lamps, and everything look great stock. Besides those parts are hard to come by. I think it's better to work on your engine, like adding an intake. I too have seen sites say that the Prelude's hp isn't that high, but whatever my car is fast and the locals know it. I've never seen a car handle like mine or one that had the charm the same way any other vintage honda has. The Prelude is a beloved car to me, I plan on keeping mine forever, good luck to you guys and your beautiful cars.
I love my '89 Honda Prelude! It has 250K+ miles... but it's still running great! :)
I got a 1989 Honda Prelude yellow 2 seater for my 16th, and I love just sitting in it; it feels pretty sporty.
I just recently bought a 1989 Honda prelude 4WS 5 speed Standard... I love the interior honda did a nice job.. when I bought the car it already had a nice sounding exaust {Although not sure if that made performance better} intake body kit stereo system that they didn't hook up right so ima redo it nice it's a really nice car to drive email or add me to chat at bstatis@yahoo.com
I have a 89 Prelude. It was and is my first car. If I had the choose between a 89 Prelude and a Dodge Viper, I would choose the Prelude; it handles amazing stock, but with some new shocks and springs, OMG never could get better!
It is lowered and sitting on 17' in hotwheel rims (off a S2000), they look so hot.
I also tinted the windows, added a stereo with a 1400 watt sub sitting down in the spare tire well.
This is a stock engine, but I got it up to 130. I beat a 2009 S2000. And a 2006 Honda Pilot, 1997 Ford F150 5.7L with a supercharger. The Ford hit 120mph, but I smoked that truck.
I love my car and never will get rid of it. I can't wait to get a h22 engine for it with a turbo, it will be unstoppable.
